I was looking at buying a C12 after I sell of my 36v drill. I really overbought with that one. However, I was wondering if I should for a possible lithium ion version that maybe coming out soon? Also why does Festool use NiCd in the 1.3 and 2.4, but NiMH in the 3.0 aH batteries? Is there really that big a difference? From what I read I thought that NiCd was better.

The C12 with Lithium's are not coming out anytime soon. Wish I had "better " news for you.

My favourite festool dealer said that a Li ion C12 was "in the pipeline", but pipelines can be VERY long.  I have the C12 and find that the batteries last very well as the motor is drawing less power than in a conventional cordless drill.  Those in the know seem to think that Li ion has many advantges not least of which is a very good "power to weight ratio" - ie they are lighter than NiMH or NiCad, but as the C12 is already very light I don't think there would be a huge gain from a move to a new battery.  I'd buy another C12 without hesitation, even if something else is coming out soon - but then I have far too many Festools (3 cordless drills, 3 plunge saws, .........)

Richard,

Yes, the "in the pipeline" wording can be very vague. And you guys get the tools "usually" before we do here in the USA to boot! As Tom mentioned, there would have to be a redesign of the C12. I would guess (and it is only a guess) we wouldn't see it out in 09.
