Hello, I need some advice if you could. I've had the opportunity to buy a used C15 drill it's had hardly any use and looks pretty much new. I've been given it to try for a few days as the owner couldn't get used to the shape and feel so bought a t handle 18 instead. The issue I have with it is that there is a very slight amount of play in the spindle bs (not rotational) but side to side. I'm pinching it between forefinger and thumb and giving it a wiggle. It's hardly much and i might be picky but I need to know if its worth buying or is there a genuine fault with the bearing. or is it an acceptable amount of movement?

With the Centrotec chuck on there is a slight wiggle but it does not affect the precision. It is there on all my Festool drills. With the Centrotec chucks off and the "bare hex bit chuck" exposed there should be no wiggle.
Thanks Henrick. It's with the bare hex shaft no centrotec. It's only slight. The drills quite new and has had minimal use for its age and he's selling the drill and 2 batteries, charger for £200. I thought going over everything thoroughly was a wise move considering.

Just checked my C12, T18, and TI15 bare shafts. Absolutely zero play in any of their shafts. I gave each shaft a strong wiggle and nothing. Solid!
I'd decline the offer on the C15. I wonder if the drill might have been dropped on its nose and damaged the bearings.

Just checked my C 15...no side to side movement what so ever. I've had & used it for the last 2 years.
Thanks for looking Cheese. It's a nice piece just within my tool budget as well. Says it's never been dropped or abused in any way and just for measure I've drilled fifty 20mm spiral bit holes thru 3" board to test and tho it got a bit hot on the shaft it seems OK. My mate just phoned and said there's a tiny amount of play in his C18 barely perceptible and hardly worth the comment! I'll check his out at work tomorrow. Thanks again.

He's selling his carvex too. After reading some of the threads about that particular tool I'm not surprised and his new one is a guess what mafell!. Incidentally my 420 is very good and have had no problems with it whatsoever even cutting straight lines with the rail.

Never previously checked for wiggle, or anything else come to that; but have now.
No wiggle at all - maybe I'm not picky. [smile]
Guess if in use no prob's - should be fine...
Is the offer for the full set of chucks?
(Think the T-18 a real sweet drill fwiw)

I, as a previous response states, have a C12 and a T18. My opinion is that the T18 is a far better tool. I don't know what the C15 seller is asking for his drill, but if possible, I'd suggest going for the T18.
Thanks to you all for checking your drills. Theres a humourous quip here somewhere! £200 inc. Charger, 2 batteries centrochuck and Jacobs and 1 pz2 100mm bit, plastic cases for screws etc. inc. systainer. No other chucks he's had T18 plus. Got another day to decide whether as you recommend Birdhunter and put toward the T18.

I would go with Birdhunters advice and the person you are wanting to buy the C15 from. He's already said he can't get on with the C15 type.
I know I can't get on with it. I would choose T over C any day of the week.

I am really impressed with the C15 I purchased this year.

However, I am continuing to use a T grip Makita for outside work, and probably will eventually replace it with a PDC. But inside, in an around trim, furniture and cabinetry I am starting to prefer the protection and balance of the C concept.
As to the perception/degree of wobble, take some screws and drill bits and try it out on various wood scraps. If the owner is unhappy about this, you could certainly walk away.

Hello untidy shop, thanks for the video. Its not the chucks its the bare hex shaft but like I mentioned it drills fine no wobble except from the nasty extension bit. You can wiggle the stub hex shaft connected direct to drill slightly when pinched. Don't have much luck with drills that's why I bought Festool. CSX on the list next but I thought this c15 was a good deal. Decided not to buy now. Incidentally workmates t18 is solid. Good drill. Makes all the other brands look obsolete.

Took the T18, TI15, and Carvex (battery). No problem cutting a small brace with the Carvex, drilling the pilot holes with the T18, and driving home the stainless 2 1/2 #12 screws with the TI15. The C12 stayed home.
The T18 surprised me with its power, great handling, and balance. The C12 doesn't see a lot of use since I got the T18.
