C18 Confusion

Festool USA has on its website the current model (#564616)of the C18 complete set. The set includes the drill body, (2) 5.2 Ah 18v batteries, charger, centrotec/Jacob’s/Rt angle/eccentric chucks, bit holder, PZ2 insert and belt clip.

I can find no retailer that has this item number in stock or even available through back order. If someone knows of a retailer that has this particular set, please post.

Furthermore, there are several different complete sets with different batteries and chuck combinations.  All available sets list for the same price as the new model, even though the batteries are of lesser Ah and contain fewer parts.

I’m confused.

The new 4.0 Ah batteries are "High Power" and use 21700 cells. While having lower capacity thse are considered "premium" over the 5.2 which uses the standard 18500 and not particularly high capacity ones at that.

The 4.0 HP is also slightly lighter compared to the 5.2 and has stlightly less power (as has 5x21700 cells instead of 10x18650 cells in the 5.2).

For above Festool sells both set versions at the same price. Actually, the 4.0 sets are mostly SKU replacements for the 5.2 sets with those not being made anymore I believe.

As for the accessories, well, over time the set contents change. I believe Festool leaves even discontinues sets on the web to avoid misunderstandings should a customer come along an older set SKU at a retailer. That way it is clear what is expected to be included even for sets which are out of production by now.

I'm pretty sure they still make the 5,2

Availability of 21700's is a bit wonky I think.
