Can the Surfix oiling system be used to spread other finishing liquids?

I'll need to oil a lot of terrace (>40m2) next summer and I'm going to ge the Surfix Set for that, but since I do have other projects in the pipeline with finish spreading involved that is not just pure oil I'm wondering can the Surfix applicator and bottles be reasonably cleaned after spreading varnish like shellac without destroying the applicator?

I don't see why not I had a look at my surfix and once  the oil has ran out i don't see why you can not reuse the container.   Maybe u need to replace the pad though when using something different.

Hi,

yes this works, you must clean the container with paint cleaner, also the lock. Then you can work with  other oil. I tried this with oil from ASUSO and it works well. I think if  the oil or the wax is  not too thick , then you can use what ever you want.

Thanks JMB and Heiko,

This sort of answered my question though I guess Alan was a bit off the mark here with regards to the question.  [tongue]

I figured you can refill the Surfix bottles since Festool sells the oil in large refill canisters as well...

What I was asking was that if I do empty the bottle part of the handle and slap a clean foam under the frame am I able to keep the frame construction clean enough after using other substances than oil through the Surfix-tool that it will still function. i.e. is there a valve of some sorts in the Surfix body construction that would be destroyed if I ran thinned wax or lacquer through the tool instead of oil. I would expect that the foam-pad would be a consumable part  and probably get destroyed when used with other substances but oil.

Hi,

Yesterday i have try to clean the pads with brush cleaner. The pad was not  destroyed. It look a bit funny, like a march mellow in the microwave when it was wet. But when it was dry, already was well. But you must try this with your brush cleaner or thinner.
