Probably a stupid question but-----

I don't have internet access in my shop but I would love to be able to view various YouTube videos there. Is it possible to download them to my iPad or Macbook so I can view them while setting up or playing with the related tool being shown? I don't see any way to do this so probably not possible. Thanks.

Not sure about Mac, but Mozilla Firefox has a plug-in called DownloadHelper that will save streaming videos.  Of course, you would also need the proper codecs to play .flv (Flash video) files.

Google is your friend.

Try "download youtube videos" -- lots of likely-sounding hits right at the top.

There are lots of ways to do it, but here is the simplest I've found:
http://keepvid.com/

Just paste the Youtube link in the box at the top and click Download.

Don't be duped by the "AVS Converter" ad.  :-)

Hi Peter

I use an application called 'Videobox' from www.tastyapps.com. It does the job pretty good. Won't work on all videos you'll come across but I've had good success with youtube vids.

As "mikey2" said Firefox with DownloadHelper is very good.
It lets you decide on the version of the video to download. I usually get the ".MP4" as it is the highest resolution.

Also if you don't have it you should get VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ it will cope with more kinds of media than QuickTime Player  and has a playlist that QT doesn't. however if you really want to use QT then Perian is what you want http://perian.org/ it will lwt QT play ".flv" files (Flash).

Of course the ".MP4" is the only one that the iPad is happy with and that iTunes can transcode for. You may convert Flash movies using "Videobox"

I also use a PowerBook but not yet an iPad

If you work on a Mac and use Safari its easy without additional software. Just click ""window", then "activity" and double click the file that is the biggest. Likely 2 mb or more. If you are on the youtube page and the video is still loading you see this too. Example, downloading video 2 mb from 40 mb. It makes a .flv file which it puts on your desktop. You can play this .flv with VLC player, which is a free downlaod.

Kind regards, Mauri
