Can you spot where the advertising sticker was?

Starbucks latest store design rollout includes these walnut (or walnut-look) tables.  I find them rather attractive.  But they have been adhering advertising stickers, about 6-3/4” in diameter to the table tops.

My table is in the direct sun. All the tables have these stickers.  Some might fade less as they are not in the direct sun.

And here is an overview.

It is painful to see.  The tables are just a few months old.  And far nicer than the previous iterations.

P.S.:  Do we think this is real walnut or just some species stained to look like it?

Starbucks went through a stint where they used a LOT of reclaimed urban ash in their store furnishings.  It wouldn't surprise me with edge-glued tops if those were real walnut from a cheap source.

Also, some day just sit and count the number of cars going through your local Starbucks drive-thru for about 6 minutes.  Multiply that by $7.50 and then by 10 for a $/hour count and then by 10 hours for operating hours.  The revenue flow through a busy store is somewhat mind-boggling.

Not that it's all profit, of course, but they're not hurting for cash.

Honestly, the thing I can never wrap my head around is the sheer cash outlay that goes into monthly window-decal campaigns at various stores or even when a Fortune 500 company re-brands or updates its logo.

My sons a barista, and as with all other cafes, the company he works for has simply exploded after the Covid lockdowns were dropped. In OZ cafes for a year or so now simply cannot get enough staff as the growth is beyond belief, surpassing pre-covid levels by a fair margin.

Even in the world championships held here in Melbourne last year (America came 2nd), the attendance rate was the highest it's ever been with the sheer number of visitors and exhibitors from around the world. The demand for coffee is so high, a good barista is treated like a rock star. He once told me the amount of bags of coffee the store at the airport went through each week, and it was staggeringly high.
