I’ve been looking for a miter saw for a while now, and have tried a few but had to return them because of lack of precision and crappy dust collection and stayed away from the Kapex because of its cost and the reported motor issues.
The Kapex KS 120 EB is on sale this weekend for $1299 Canadian = US$986
I spoke to a rep at the store and he said that due to the complaints, mostly from their US customers, they’ve been putting the same new motor as in the 2019 REB model, on the EB model for the past 8 months.
Looks very likely I will jump on that.

Wouldn’t this require a new bom and a new part number? This looks like a desperate move to get rid of obsolete stock.

Might be the old version, but I like the storage place of the miter gauge way better than on the new one.

In case they would be located in Europe I would get half a dozend. Then resell four of them over the next year or two, ending up with owning two for the price of minus two (or even less).

I just called Festool Canada and the guy said that there was never a new motor but rather was improved throughout the years and the motor in the last batch is the same as in the new REB.
The difference between the EN and REB are the extension table and location of the mitre gauge.

Jump on it!

I was watching a review video on the new Delta (released in 2018; $600US; $650 for 12" model), and felt happy that I've been using a Kapex for the past 3 or 4 years. The reviewer thought the Delta saw should be in the $400 price range.

Since new motor parts are now available, unless they're also lemons (admittedly too new to tell yet), you shouldn't worry about the saw even if it has old parts in it. If it smokes under warranty (some say it's a 5-year coverage in Canada), you know it will get fixed with new parts.

If I were in Toronto, I'd check out the Makita track saw deal, too ($699?).
