Carvex - blade mount design is awful for mounting small blades

I have a carvex but have not had the need to use a lot of shorter blades.  I do cut metal and on occasion I will but have not had the issue with them coming out due to not seating.

A couple of ideas that you might try:

1  Have you tried inserting or removing the blades with the base off?  Might give you more grip on shorter blades

2  Consider making an 'insertion tool'  - You could take a dowel and cut a slit in the end, then slide a piece of copper pipe over the dowel to capture the slitted portion.  Cross drill at the other end and make a 't-wrench' that would slip over the shorter blades to seat and turn them.

I use pliers also when I need to mount a short blade. (Bosch t119a)  Its a hassle but thankfully I don't need that blade very often.

I have Carvex longer than most in NA.  I have used many short blades.  I just pop the base off if I have issues.  I also pop the fence portion off of the Domino 500 if I need to make adjustments.

Well I broke down yesterday and bought a carvex. :D I use my jig saw (bosch) to cope crown moulding, using the coper jigs.

it was a bit of a learning curve, well it had to be as I have/had 51 copes to do before tomorrow. Im getting up early to finish! LOL

I must say I absolutely love this jig saw! the strobe light makes it possible for me to cut the paint line in half, and it's really really small.

No more need for me to break out my files to finish off the copes.

A few things though, I can't figure out how to change the lighting, I read the manual and it said to push buttons 1 and 2. ?? I found button 1, but where's 2?

This jig saw is not "left handed" friendly, but I'm learning to compensate. Can't turn it off easily, takes two hands. I do miss the "on off" trigger on the handle of the Bosch.

It also doesn't like to eject the small blades, bosch  T119BO. I did use a blade that the dealer recommended, but I found it too "wide" the back side was interfering with the curve of the crown.

This sucker is amazing! it hurt buying it, but wow - and that strobe light hasn't made me want to go out and do bad things! yet. LOL

Hi all,

I have a semi-related problem: the blade mount on my Carvex doesn't want to snap to the "engaged" position even when I press the end of the blade down on a workbench. I think it is clogged with sheet rock dust, although I've tried to blow it out. Is there a way to remove or open it up that I can do, or does it have to be sent back to Lester and crew?

Thanks, Dick

I had that problem too although I was only cutting wood,  sent mine in. If you mess around with it and it breaks down in the future you will probably have invalidated the guarantee. Just a thought.

Do you have the barrel grip or the d handle?

If you have the barrel grip, it is the two on/off switches (on the left and right sides")

It will beep and you can select then. Carvex is a great saw. Love mine. If you haven't ordered the coping foot from Collins, maybe pick one up. I am eagerly waiting for mine to arrive.

I have the D handle. I didn't know that Collins made a coping foot for the carvex, if that's the case I'll order one quick. I've got lots and lots of work scheduled, most of it crown. Sure different from last year! glad that its busy :) I can buy more Festools that way.

I think next up for me will either be the large planer, or the small drill.

Or a cordless 16ga paslode nailer, but I can't seem to get the new model here in Canada.

edit: I just found the Collins coping foot for the carvex on the Collins coping foot site. Ordering one tomorrow :)
