I made a compact base for my new Carvex. The base will allow me to use the Carvex to cut the back side of a sink opening along a backsplash. I can cut to within 11/16 of the backsplash. I raised the saw about 1 1/8" higher than the standard bases.

Good idea...just curious as to why you made the custom base so much taller?

I made it taller so the 2 7/8" wide body of the saw will clear the top of the backsplash. At this height it will only work on 4" tall backsplashes with a large profile on the back & still get a 90 degree cut. When I designed this, I designed this, the longest blade I could find with 12 or more teeth per inch was 5 1/4" long. I have since found some that are 7 inches long. When get these blades, I will be adding on to the bottom of the base.

This is what I have been using for the past 30 years on a Bosch jigsaw. It worked, but the mounting plate is 2" wide so I could only make 90 degrees cuts within 1" of the backsplash. Also it was difficult to setup & use.

You must get a ton of deflection with jig saw blades that long, how do you keep the edge of the opening perpendicular?

Deflection has not been a problem with 5" blades. I will have to see if it is a problem with the 7" blades.
