Carvex PS 420 - Am I doing this wrong?

First time using Carvex and it made a big mess, sawdust all over the place. Maybe I didn't set it up correctly?
I was cutting about 38mm of excess from a 2x4. The 2x4 is in a vertical orientation so Carvex was horizontal, sideways (blade was horizontal). Chip guard down, splinter guard installed, connected to CT26 (hose 27/32 x 3.5 m AS/CTR) using a 75,4 FSG blade.
I do not expect 100% elimination of sawdust but i figured atleast a good 75% would be captured by the extractor. Are my expectations off or would y'all say this is operator error?

The two squares is what I was cutting off after another 5/4x6 was added.

Your expectations are too high. Trying to gather dust via a small hole behind the blade just doesn’t work well. Might work better when cutting mdf which makes much finer dust but the chunkier stuff from natural wood is little affected.

I don’t bother with connecting the hose to the back of the saw when dust will be a problem  because it doesn’t do much except make it more difficult to steer. Instead, I hold the hose on the shoe as close to the blade as practical.

I'll agree with Michael here.  I was just talking about the Carvex and dust collection today at a Festool demo.  Told him that I never bothered with the hose because the blade will naturally deposit dust beyond the reach of the suction and that I hated being tethered while negotiating curves.

Yes. Expectations too high. I gave up on connecting hose to port long ago. If not difficult cut, I typically control saw with one hand and hold hose end with other to capture most dust at blade. I do the same with the multitool.
