Ceiling tile covering for a reception desk

This ridged/rippled material is actually intended to be adhered to drop in type ceiling tiles. I was told that it is also supposed to be paintable? Seems odd to me, because it is very shiny. It is dull on the opposite side, which seems more likely to be paintable, but the texture is not exactly the same there.
Gluing to the shiny side doesn't seem right either. Based on the edges of the entire sheet, and the way they are formed to overlap, the shiny side is supposed to be out.
I got it finished this morning, delivered, installed, and the guys were back by 3:00.  Even though the floor was way out of level, it went in well. I'll try to get installed pics tomorrow.

I remember once buying a 2x2 plastic wavy ceiling tile because I wanted to make it into a piece of edge-lit wall art.  I think it ended up in the dump when I got married and moved in with my wife.  It's always interesting to see materials used off-label like that.
