Just so everyone here in America can visually see whats in the Centrotec bit asst I decided to post some pics. I will post two separate posts to make sure you can open the pics and enlarge them. I also included the full list of the 160 bit set as a pic.

And heres a few more pics for all you centrotec folks. These pics go with my previous post.
Have a great day!

Man, I really hate to see this.  Really wasn't thinking I had to have one of those cordless drills from Festool.  Looking at this assortment, I'm not so sure any more.

The pictures show 2 CE chucks and the # of pieces show as 2 but the "cost if buying separately" shows $20 rather $40 it should be.  Can someone who owns actually confirm there are 2 CE chucks in the kit?   If so, I think that is an additional $20 savings.

Price for set is $380 (USD).

Definitely two chucks my friends. Popped open the systainer and the picture is exactly what you get. $380 is the price and that is a savings of $245 if you were to buy everything separately. so if you have any questions, let me know!

Trevor, I may be wrong (often am) but I think the chucks are $20 each -- which makes the actual savings ~$265.

If the chucks are $20/pair then I take it all back!

Posted an early version of this spreadsheet in another thread but this seems like a better place:
  - used to determine if the bit assortment is an actual value for you
  - updated to include hyperlink to individual items (some I couldn't find on Festool USA website)
  - comments added where appropriate -- e.g., set includes 1 bit but you can only buy separately in a package of 2
  - also corrected "value" of the 2 CE chucks -- still uncertain on this one and I'll change when I find I'm wrong

Are these twist bits

Replacement bits for these?

I had not seen those Centrotec drill bit adapters before.

Also, is there foam or something between layers of the inserts?  Has anyone dumped this box over (closed of course) too see what happens?

Mornin' Bill, they are twist bits and they are exactly the same except totally different!  (We have to be light today...the Huskers aren't playing too well right now).  Seriously, the actual bits are indeed the same, the difference is the chucking styles.  The "top" pic in your post chuck into the Jacobs style chuck on the drill, whereas the lower pic, chucks into the Centrotec style chuck.

There is no foam or "holding" elements for the loose bits, however, from Trev's pics, the Centrotec and the Centrotec Brad Pts are clipped in along with the Centrotec drivers.

Timmy.  OK.  I assumed that since this was a Centrotec collection those bits somehow got inserted into some adapter so that they could be used in the Centrotec chuck.

So the bits in the second picture...there isn't a way to replace just the bits?  There's no set screw in that Centrotec adapter?

Sorry Bill, I miss understood....I should be paying more attention to the FOG than the Husker vs. Wake Forrest game.  (You know you are a junkie with a comment like that!)

They are indeed replacements as well.  There was the misunderstanding.  In the set, you also get 5 additional set screws, and the allen wrench to replace the bit!

Sorry for the confusion, it won't happen again!

HI,

This is one very cool set.  The more I see the more tempting it becomes, and I don't even have the drill! But the trouble with it for me is- there is a hole bunch of stuff I will probably never use. Sure it is good to have torx and pozi drive available. But those are not types that get much use (except the 25 torx) FOR ME here in the US.  I added up the bits that I would purchase from Festool in the catalog (including duplicates of drivers etc) and came up with about $200 including some items that are not in this set. I am still considering it though. I would probably take out the bits I wouldn't use and put in others ,messing up the nicely labeled slots :'(.
I am currently trying to simplify and streamline a bit. I am even considering yardsaling a whole bunch of perfectly good screws in order to  only be using one or two drives instead of three or four. Perhasp I would be better off making my own customised set using a Sortainer?
      I just don't know yet  :-\

If you're only using phillips it would not be good value for you. Spend the money on something else, there's a wide selection. Once we ran out of PH2 bits, we started trying to use PZ1's instead. They don't work so well that way.

Bill-E                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          If you look at the 5mm bit in the first picture you are able to see a flat that the set screw hits in the Centrotec adapter. All the bits in this picture have flats for this purpose. This set screw is on the back side where you cannot see it in the picture. The bits in the first picture are for replacement in the Centrotec adapters, but could be chucked in a Jacobs chuck.  Then the back side of bits not shown, in second picture, is where the set screw is located for each bit.  I am sure I have made it clear as mud. :)

I understand and I can actually see one set screw in the pic (first bit top left).

That's what I originally assumed until Timmy muddied it up ;D

I read that as what we say around here: "Nice goin' Timmy....way to ruin it for everyone!"  Thanks again for the chat today Bill...
