Usually when I have a tool problem, it turns out to be a fool (i.e., me) problem. But I’ll be darned if I can figure this one out. I have a lightly used, reconditioned T18 and am absolutely unable to remove the Centrotec chuck. I know how to get it off normally. That doesn’t work. Any tips or tricks?

Is it stuck on its own or with a bit in it? Sometimes I find the bit holder jams in the drill shaft and I need to knock the bit holder against a piece of wood to dislodge it. .

I second MrB's suggestion. I'd chuck the longest centrotec bit I had and wiggle the bit while pulling on the chuck release collar.

Thanks, but no luck so far. There was no bit in the chuck, but I tried freeing it both with and without a bit inserted.

Before you experienced this, did you drill in metal or similar that could have attracted metal fragments? Or was the drill exposed to metal fragments? You could have been extremely unlucky to have a fragment locking either the locking ring or locking ball(s) preventing enough movement.

Hammer?
