What I need invented or adapted is a Centrotec chuck for standard quarter inch bits. Just to look at it it does not seem like it would be that hard.
If someone made one I am sure he could sell one to every Festool drill owner. I would buy at least two.

The most pronounced difference in a Centrotec bit and the typical 1/4" bits is the length beyond the gripping groove.

The Centrotec bits are longer toward the drill from the groove. That's because they are engaging in the output shaft of the drill. This does more than one thing...

First, it transfers power directly from the drill to the bit, without having to depend on the chuck. It seems to me that this allows the chuck to be a lot lighter and the drill/chuck combination shorter.

Second, it makes the bit run true because it has guidance that is farther apart on the bit.

There is a diagram of the configuration in this reference document on the Festool chucks.

Don't know if this helps, but here is some information on a potential option from our product manager Rick Bush:

The BH 60 and BHS 65 would work for 1/4? hexagonal bits that are 1? in length.

But, you can't use other drill holders, accessories, that do not have the Centrotec grind to the shank.

So if you want to run square drive bits, your would be fine if they are insert bits.  But if you want to use the Kreg jig and want to run the screw, you have to use a longer #2 square drive to clear the hole.  An insert bit into a holder doesn't clear the hole.

best regards,
Martin
