Since falling off of the "Festool Cliff," my projects have become better, as well as larger.

I took the time between Xmas and New Year to assemble a version of Herr Guido's "Chaos Wall."

Great project.  Great results.

I'm only posting to illustrate that even an inexperienced novice like myself can produce
acceptable results with the Festool system.

Things I learned:  1) Rafix connectors were very nice for assembling heavy Melamine - However, my product was 21 mm thick, and the system holes were at 9.5 mm - therefore my corners are not flush (even though the overly doors hide the fact).  The system was expecting 19mm product.

2)  My Deutsche skills are limited, so I did not catch the part about "drilling the Rafix holes for the permanent middle shelves BEFORE they are trimmed to length.  OOPS. (I was able to craft a shim to insert between Guido's jig and the shelf to space the hole correctly.,  but time lost.)

3)  I had so many leftover melamine scraps to use, that I made the front of the systainer trays out of Melamine.  Looks OK, Works OK, but again, a lot of time lost banding the edges.

4)  I made the rookie mistake of boring the shelf / hinge holes before the Hafele hinges and drawer slides arrived.  No big deal, except that the rear shelf support holes did not align with the back mounting hole of the drawer glides.  Again, no big deal, but time lost drilling and mounting, rather than
just tightening four Euro screws.

5)  I used 3/4 ply for the systainer trays, baltic birch 1/2 is probably adequate, and may allow for more systainer space.  I also may have put my permanent shelf too low, but I am not a tall person, and wanted to be able to see into the drawers.

Great project.

Many thanks to Herr Guido for sharing so many ideas.

Happy New Year.

Brett

You don't waste much time do you?  No matter what you said.  [big grin].  Great looking project!  And thank you for pointing out where you had small hiccups.  That will help others as they attempt to copy your great wall.

Great job!  Looks functional!  I'm sure it'll work out well for you!  There's quite a bit of prep involved...I attended a Woodcraft "chaos theory" class for haha's and the gentleman who did the demo was not as prepared as he should've been and almost seemed like he was learning as he went. I have watched A LOT of Guidos videos and jumped in to help out quite a bit. I felt bad but some people were almost wondering why they paid to see something that had mistakes written all over it. My long winded point is that proper preparation prevent poor performance!

Happy new year!
