[unsure] I am interested in why, once an item is sold the selling party does not simply pull their ad. Is this something that can be done and is not, or is it an overworked moderator function.
Just a pet peeve and it is the same on most online classifieds.
Love this place in any case.

I think that a classified post - even after the item has sold - provides valuable information to the rest of the community and so should be left intact for posterity.  *My* pet peeve is when people delete their posts or erase information (item details, asking price, etc) from the thread after an item has been sold.  If I want to know what a fair price for a used Domino might be, this would be the first place I'd start looking.

Also on some forums I've frequented, people who violate various forum rules (e.g. selling as a commercial enterprise) use the ability to delete or edit posts to hide their policy abuse.

I will offer an explanation of what has been happening here as of late.  The policy of the forum is that moderators and administrators can delete after a certain time period.

I have cleaned up the classifieds and actually went thru this weekend and locked threads where members indicated that they had sold or the thread was so old that it was either sold or wouldn't have any interest.

If you go thru the classifieds and see a little padlock symbol - then that is there for historical information and might provide information to a reader, but can not be posted to and brought back into the forum.  You can read but not write would have been a simpler answer from me.

Eventually we do something different.

Peter
