CMS Router Table and Incra

Hi guys!

I am a long time reader but first time poster.

I was thinking of ways to combine a CMS router table (OF2200) and an Incra fence. By building a table in which I can mount the CMS module (without the legs) I could use the sliding table from Festool. At the same time I could attach a fence from Incra to the shop made table and get the benefits that Incra provide. So the CMS table would be mounted in the shop made table, together creating a big router table.

Critical points:
1. make sure the CMS table is flush with the shop made table
2 make sure that the CMS table does not move in ralation to the Incra fence.

Has anyone done something like this before?
What do you think about the concept? (Am I crazy?)
What Incra fence would you recommend?

Thanks!

[welcome]

There are some nice options combining MFT/3 + CMS-VL + CMS OF and a custom mounting plate a seller here offers for the Incra positioner base.

This may end up being more than you're wanting to invest .. but offers significant flexibility.

Thanks Kev! I will look into that combo. I have an mft but in my current setup, the total length when combined with the CMS-VL would be to long and take up to much space. But it might be and excuse to rearrange the shop!

The MFT combo will not work with my shop setup, takes to much room lengthwise.
So, the current idea is to get a of2200 and the nessecery CMS-parts (baseplate, lift, powerswitch and a mft side rail). Then build a table that incorporates these parts and ad a Incra fence.

Right now I am favouring the wonder fence.
The LS17 or the LS25, any suggestions?

Thanks

I just finished putting an Incra ls32 wonderfence on my mafell erika and it's well worth the time and money invested. I wouldnsuggest a different router and lift for it though as the of2200 is just too nice and expensive of a router to be under a table imo. I got a porter cable 75182 motor and put it in a Incra prlv-2 lift (woodpeckers makes it) and I couldn't be happier. It also cost slightly less than just the of2200 and I get a lift with incra mental adjustment and above the table bit changes.

For you the shorter positioner would be more than enough travel on a router table so either one works really.

I don't want to hijack the thread but I've got a thread going on the other forum with a plethora of pictures if you want to check it out.

You must always balance your tool buying with the wifes approval factor Richard, have patience! I've learned a great answer for "why is there a new tool on the porch?". Babe, it's a write-off.

The reasoning for the 2200 is that I can easily get it out of the table (CMS-mount) and use it hand held. So I get a real nice friend to my 1010.  Also the number of routers available here is quite limited. I have read that many use a PC router in their table,  but those are not sold here in Sweden.

Did you want a 1/2 router for hand work or just use your smaller 1010 router?

There do not seem to be any PC in 230v...
So I have pretty much decided that for 230v the Triton looks good for me for the table mount.
However the 2200 would probably fits the hole pattern, unless an older QF 2000 also fits it?

I have the 1010 and like it a lot, but for operations requiring a bit more power, the 2200 is one sweet router. So I would use the 2200 in the table and by hand.

I looked at the Triton but also found very mixed reviews, so going the festool route seems like a safer bet.

Goran,  my plan is to use the cms-ge that I just got,  on a custom built table with its legs folded away. That way I can add an incra in the future and get the solid feeling of a heavy base in the workshop,  but also take the cms-ge with me on jobs where its mobility is key. I haven't designed the custom furniture yet,  but I plan on it to be able to house a vac and the various cms pieces when not in use.
This way should provide the stability that the cms-vl has - combined with the flexibility of the cms-ge...
Anyway,  just an input - not sure if you have purchased a cms yet...

David, that exact idea was what got me started with this whole concept! Great minds think alike! I also like the idea of being able to take the table on the road, but I am not sure I really need that option. But if I have it, I am sure I will find a need.

There are three aspects about using a complete CMS-ge that has me a bit concerned.
1. How to ensure that the router is always positioned dead straight relative to the Incra fence.
2. How to get a tight fit between the CMS and the custom built table
3. I started thinking it might be quite nice with a bit more table to the outside of the router bit (on the other side compared to the fence) to support larger work pieces.

If #3 becomes an issue I could always get a Festool extension wing. A new excuse to buy more Festool stuff! Have you thought about how to solve issue 1 and 2 in my list?

As you gather from this post, I have not purchased anything so far....
