Two questions related to the CMS stand alone unit.

1.  The ability to attach the CMS to the MFT-3  requires some accessories/ hardware?  Do they come standard with the `CMS unit or do i have to order from Festool?

2.  When considering the hose adapter issues, i think i will need a CS 70 AB (488292), which will work with my CT 22, do I need the 50 mm hose and a collar that some have written about a couple of years ago?

Appreciate any advice// V

Of Note , i should point out that I am currently working in UK, so do have access to this NAINA gear!!

Although I only visit Europe and the UK a couple of times each year, my experience has been that there are many really good Festool dealers there. They can answer all your questions as to the accessories included and those you would need to purchase additionally.

My shop has a large Felder shaper in addition to 2 router tables each with 3 hp routers. The shaper connects to the plant DC system with 2 separate 100mm hoses. Neither of my router tables can handle a 100mm hose, so we fabricated splitters so each table has 2 50mm short hoses connected to a 100mm hose.

You talk about the CMS standalone unit. But to my knowledge that unit is not meant to be attached to the MFT. The unit that is meant to be attached to the MFT/3 is the MFT/3-VL. You can rest assured that this unit comes standard with all the parts needed to attach it to the MFT/3.

If you use the CS 70 AB hose you don't need anything extra to attach it to your CT22. It has the same size fitting on the vac side as all other Festool hoses so it slips right in. The only reason you might need an extra 50 mm hose is if you want to use it as an extension cord so you can put the vac further away.

Absolutely right Alex. Please don't get the 3-VL though VENKy. It's crap. Get a proper CMS. I can't describe how frustrating it is to have to take all the stuff off the MFT to use it as a router table or as a TS.

Like I said to you via pm VENK.  The problem with the basic is it has 4legs and attaching it to the MFT some how which I don't think der is a festool accessory to do so any way! It's difficult to get the MFT and basic cms inline "level" with each other as both only have one adjustable leg.

Like I said to you if you want the cms to be attached to your MFT and maybe some times have it stand alone (this would only really work in a work shop) you could order a spare MFT rail part which you could screw to your wall in your work shop and this would allow you to fix your cms VL to the wall so is independent from your MFT but you still have the option to attach it to your MFT.

I never asked y you want to have both options sorry.  So why do you want to be able to attach it to the MFT and have it free standing.

I own both the VL and basic I have never used my VL only basic as mentioned by Eli it's a pain in the bottom and for site use the overall size is to big for me.  Once I have my work shop one of the things I'm going to do is what I mentioned and fix a V groove rail to a wall so I can attach my Cms VL to.  This saves pace in my work shop as I could store it out of the way and have room for something else if needed.

I did think of making a mini MFT for my VL but decided to much hassle and went out and bought the basic cms instead and i love it it's extremely light.

PS - I do have the CMS [big grin] Plates for TS55, PS300, side tables. Wish I had the router plate. Someday.

I don't know if we'll get the CMS or not (I'm keeping my fingers crossed) but I would think you're right about the VL.  I'd want a stand alone unit so I could take it to a jobsite easily.

You really got me thinking!

I was almost ready to order the CMS router inlay and the MFT/3 VL just because it seemed logical to extend the MFT/3. But with limited shop space and mobility the stand alone version makes more sense. Although I probably still go for the VL because of my setup with the Incra Positioner:

http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-jigs-tool-enhancements/mft-3-precision-saw-router-fence-with-incra-incremental-positioning-system/msg102361/#msg102361

Mounting the VL to the wall would of course help a little and from my understanding it must also be possible to connect the VL to the long MFT side!

As an alternative (without the mobility) I thought about extending the MFT with the VVL extrusions and simply routing one side of the MFT to fit the CMS OF:

With your incra setup it would make sense to have a VL I suppose!  Yes the VL will fit any where on the MFT long and short side no problem.    attaching it to a wall kinda makes it like the CMS basic  so if you can set up your VL and have your MFT 3 free.    You can either make support either side where you mount your VL to the wall OR buy Festool UG left and right extensions!  Doing it this way would save you alot of space in your work shop as you can pack up the Ug extensions and your VL when not in use!  Well its what im planning on doing with mine any way!

:)

Thanks for all your replies.

I settled for the stand alone unit CMS-GE GB 561261

but I ordered the wrong rip fence the 50 instead of the 70, so have to return the LA FESTOOL 492095 STOPPER LA, RIP FENCE FOR CMS

I bought the side extension table and the sliding table, since i will use it in stand alone mode, i think the rear extension table would also be useful.

I will pick that up when i goto sittingbourne tomorrow.  Missed out on Festool world in Nuneaton, sounds lie it would have been a great experience!!  ;D

I don't get it, why is this the wrong one? This is exactly the one you need for the CMS.

The 50 is for the Precisio CS50 and the CMS, while the 70 is only for the Precisio CS70.

What Alex said. LA 50 is what I have. It's occasionally useful to have a table extension as well.

[embarassed]

Thanks Alex and Eli.

I believe I was reading some prior messages about the need to get a longer fence, but of course they were talking about the CMS-vl
