"Collecting" sanders ... let's get real

Well I look at it like this, if I need the tool for this certian job, and I am sure this job will pay for that tool, then it's a must.

I learned many moons ago, don't buy that tool unless you will make money with it. Yeah it was tough to learn at first, but now no problem...

I think it sort of depends on what you normal work entails.

For basic sanding:
If you get a lot of rough cut wood a RO-150 makes a lot of sense. If you make things out of tree stumps or maybe a lot of paint removal work the RAS-115 should be high on the list. If you mainly work with dimensioned woods you may be able to get away with one of the ETS-150 models.

For detail and fine sanding:
That's where you really need to make some determinations because really there are a lot of different options depending on what you are doing. I use the ETS-150/3 for a lot of detail work but there are times when I think I want to get something with a smaller pad or with corners. I think the RO-90 or the DTS-400 probably are the jack-of-all-trades models in the Festool detail sanding lineup by most accounts. (One of those will probably be the next tool I acquire.) However if you do a lot of molding or railings then the LS-130 might make more sense. If you do a lot of table tops then the RS-2 may be where you want to be. ...And so on...

Just some thoughts...

P.S. Brice, that is an awesome piece you have going there. Can't wait to see the finished work...
