compressor suggestions

Hi all,

Well, my little hitachi compressor dies after just 5 uses.  It was a floor model that I got "as is".  Luckily for me the store is giving me full credit on the exchange, problem is I don't know what to replace it with.  I am a hobbyist, but I'm looking to be able to run a finish nail gun, and possibly framing gun and other general uses.  I don't think Spraying is inmy future but i would like the flexibility to do that if necessary.

They gave me $200 in the exchange so anything at or below the $300 level is what I'm looking at to purchase.

Thanks,

Oscar

If you're looking for a compact compressor primarily for finish work I would look at the Rol-Air JC10. It's amazingly quiet.

I do all that you mention and spray using a LVLP spray system purchased from Jeff Jewitt (Homestead Finishing products) on my Craftsman 30gal  single stage, oil-free, upright compressor. (6hp 150psi)

although small and not a good choice for even intermittent Framing Gun usage, the Senco PC1010 is quiet, and runs my 23ga Pin nailer, or 18ga Brad nailer, or 15ga Finish Nailer just fine.  Light, and seems to be well made.

I ended up deciding that all i really need is a compressor for nailing and other odds and ends of inflating things like balls and tires.  So I picked the Porter Cable C2002 6 gal pancake compressor.

Thanks for all the help!

+1 on the Rolair JC-10.

It will work well for your needs (same as mine). It is extremely quiet and very fast refill. Well within your price range.

ToolNut (Same company as FestoolProducts.com) sells them with free shipping and no tax (Outside of NY). That's where I bought mine, and it has been a great buy!

Here's a link to their JC-10 page. Price is $239.00.  JC-10 page at ToolNut.

Cheers,

Frank

Another vote for the JC-10. I don't own one but have used one and it was quite and very fast to fill.

The PC, by comparison, seems to take FOREVER to come up to pressure. I had a PC pancake compressor and didn't care for it either. I sold it at a loss just to get rid of it...

FYI, there's a new lil baby brother on the horizon to the JC10.  Still may be some months away.  Its up on the site with a tentative price round $169 which may be subject to change.

The "Air Buddy"

Lighter, likely quieter.  The whole shebang.  Excited to see'em and you'll definitely get a rundown from us when we have the chance to test'er.

If I read the OP's post correctly, he has a $200 in store credit, which would rule out going to ToolNut for the compressor.  However,he has made his decision already, and the PC should serve him well for many years.....
