Everything has been bigger than average lately, and this one is no exception, 27 feet. It is however, backward from typical, but it makes sense. It goes into a City Council meeting room, curving forward from the middle, so people can see each other, while still facing mostly outward too.
There's a lot of Solid Surface to go on it, so, more to follow. Also, when put in place, the front will be skinned with 1/4" thick steel. A different approach to bullet resistant.

Some progress
The Corian department is nearly finished with the lower countertop. They just needed the weird little "ramps" that go in the front of the monitor pockets. We agreed that I would make them, during the initial evaluation. It's a bit of a tricky cut. Both edges need an 18 degree bevel, one from the face and the other from an edge. I made a sled to hold the parts vertically, but it is still a 2" deep cut, in some very dense material.

Really great work there! So how strong are those joined seams on their own?

Having never used Corian myself other than carving it, I've always wondered how well the joins last.

Curv d steel for bullet resistance, don’t want to sit in front of that during live fire, angling fragments towards the audience 😒

@rst I'm right there with you. It's better than nothing, but I sure wouldn't trust it. People who do things like this don't think that deeply into the consequences/downstream results.

@luvmytoolz A properly prepared joint is very strong. It's not to the point of welding metal, but even an edge to edge butt-joint is similar to an edge grain wood joint. If you try to break it, the crack will usually be right next to the glue joint.
Once you get into assemblies, where multiple pieces interact, it becomes nearly homogenous.
There are two field seams in this pic, neither of them has been glued, they are just sitting there. The only reason that they are visible is that they are not sanded to the edges. That has a tendency to round over the edges, creating a lot more work to blend it out.

All that is left now, is the "backsplash" and cap. That should be done tomorrow, I've already moved on to the next project.
