Hello,
Recently, I received a number of messages from members wondering if changing their profiles would make them unable to access the forum. I was mystified about why people were suddenly worried about this, when I finally traced it to a small mention of this subject in an otherwise unrelated post: click here.
There has been some misunderstanding here. Let me clarify.
When you make certain changes to your forum profile, you must approve those changes by responding to a confirmation message sent to the e-mail address you used when you registered for the forum.
The confirmation e-mail is sent within seconds. All you need to do is click a link provided inside the e-mail. You are automatically taken to your profile screen, your changes are approved, and your forum access is the same as before.
This system is used in most Internet forums. It's there for security reasons: to make sure that changes to a profile are made by the person who owns that profile.
If you change your password, you will not be able to access the forum until you confirm the change. That may make it seem as though you are not able to access the forum. But you do have full access. You just need to confirm the changes you have made.
Long story short: if you change essential parts of your profile, you must confirm those changes through a quick, automatic e-mail.
Stay in touch,
Matthew
