Connect full-sized cyclone to Festool ?

I just started wondering whether one could hook up a full-sized cyclone to a Festool, whether the cyclone would collapse the hose, or whether it would even be worthwhile with the much smaller hoses on Festools.

I bought a 3-hp Oneida but have not yet run the 220 nor the ductwork.  Thinking about the latter got me wondering about the possibility of connecting my Festools.

I do also have the Oneida Ultimate Dust Deputy on my CT-33 but I find the whole combination to be rather unwieldy.   With that, plus the boom arm, Plug-it, D27 and D36 hoses hanging off of it, it looks rather Doctor Octopus-sy.

I don't think it would work well with the sanders but I can't imagine anything else being adversely effected by it. From what I recall, the low settings on the CT is for sanding.

I have central dust collection. I have never tried this but I feel it would work. You would have to be able to damper the branch line you were hooking it to. Kind of the effect the variable speed on the CT's give you, otherwise you are going to have too much suction causing all of the problems you get with running the variable speed to high on the CT's when sanding.

Yup, vacuums work better on the small aperture tools than cyclones do.  What you might consider, though, is hooking your Oneida (I have the same one) to a downdraft table for those "90% dust collection Festools."

My 3 hp cyclone is hooked up to my Kapex in the shop and it works fine.  Makes a lot more noise than the CT dust extractor but it's fine.  You won't have any issues with the hoses collapsing.  You can vary the suction on your large unit the same as a ct by way of a blast gate.  btw my gate stays wide open.
