Hey Everybody,

Ever catch a family member sneakin off with a good chisel to do Gawd knows what?

Or, ever been so lazy that, Ok just this one time I am gonna use this cabinet makers chisel

for a unintended purpose.

Off course you have.

And if you work with some one else...... happens all the time no?

These things are the cure.

They sell them at Woodcraft

Made in America by Nordic Forge a supplier of tools to the farrier trade.

Now ya won't find these on the Nordic  website but they kinda beg you to e-mail them.

Must be lonely in Guttenberg Iowa.

Wow! Talk about a full tang chisel! Those are not subtle tools.

So Per,

Took a gander at the site, looks promising.  I could use a set like that, not for the neighbor, friend , or jobsite comrade, but ME.

In the real world, how do they stand up to say a....  mid to upper level Stanley?  Do they shrug off abuse better?  or are they just easier on the pocket book during initial buy-in?

I ask because I (like most guys in the trenches everyday) have a ton of cheap-o Stanley's that nothing but a few hours (and beers) can't bring back to mediocre life, just to be torn up again, and again.

So a tougher blade would be cool, but who would I share beers with?

Thanks, Dan

No Dan,

These tools are perfect for the likes of us.

Like any long time carpenter, I am full of bad lazy habits,

when it comes to time and what can I get to first.

So it is with my admission of guilt in the real world.

Do you honestly think when I nick one of my 75 dollah chisels

I take responsibility? Nah I have a Father and Son as scapeswensons.

So I picked these up to lessen my ability to impart psychic strain by randomly

assigning guilt to others.

I beat the crap out of em with a smile.

The reason I posted about these just now, I actually have a paying job on Monday.

One of those big old Arts/Crafts/semi Victorian piles needs some soffit and fascia repair work.

That means capentah saddiday night.

Sharpening.  They hold a edge they sharpen well, Dan you need a set.

Sometimes that sawzall aint the answer to everything.

Here are mine a few minutes ago

Per,

Thanks, I'll go shopping soon.

On another note:  I work by myself, (it's a long story, let's just say I'm tough on apprentices), but, in the interest of keeping up with corporate America, may I out-source my chisel misshaps to the "scapeswensons" ??

Just a thought, Dan

I really could have used a set this week, digging rot out of large beams down to sound wood and then using a dutchman and  epoxy to fill back in. Only nicked my Veritas mortise chisel...already reground the edge though.

Thanks for the post.

No Dan

I am more treacherous then that.

I am a semi  solo act also. Out "in the field".

But here back at the ranch, shop and two story's of tools.

The scapeswensons are very easy to set up.

and so gullible ;D

John,

If you ever have to do that deal again,

may I offer a alternate suggestion?

Plunge cut them out with a jig saw.

Specifically with the fat gold festool jig saw blades.

Per

John,

If I may add to Per's advice.  I have a dedicated jiggy with a Collins coping foot.  GREAT for that kind of work.  Really lets you get into stuff at goofy angles.  ( I use it for oven and sink cut-outs, etc)

Dan

Multimaster, if you can afford the blade habit that goes with it.  ;D

For really punky wood I use the scraper blade.

just checked

we pay the same amount in pounds as you do in dollars

in other words, we pay twice as much for these tools

DD,
Big qestion is,
5o do you charge twice as much for your work?
I am no economist, but there has to some social leveler here,or you nice folks over yonder would be back to having the old head in a basket partiesm
Per

First official post from my bb, took ed minutes to write this

come on DD, We all know you only work half as much so the cost is the same :o
Tinker

quite correct tinker  :)

but

when it comes to second fix carpentry per says

"murricans dont do nuthin twice"

you do trim carpentry instead

aparantly its a very special type of north american carpentry

whereby you do things right first time  ;D

yeah, yeah......................... and im from outer space  ;)

the ameicans are so thaughtfull

their customs, have a second gate

specifically for the english

labeled "Aliens"  ::)

It's not just for the English. I'm Canadian, and officially a "permanent resident alien". None of the neighbors have noticed yet. I keep my disguise on during the day - it hides the tentacles...
