I have seen in the building industry they now use Ultra High Bond double-sided constructive tape for actually joining metal parts in place of fasteners or even welds. I also see here that Titebond sells a flooring tape adhesive.

I wonder what prevents 3M or others like Titebond from not creating a permanent high bond double-sided tape for joining pieces in place of liquid glue for general wood working? Any thoughts?
