Hi all, I recently got a member offer email from Costco, and saw this:
https://www.costco.co.uk/Home-Impro...ble-Workbench-with-Butcher-Block-Top/p/302141

It's a tiny bit lower than an MFT at 88.4 mm, so I thought it might make a good in feed, or out feed table, or even a workbench extension for somebody. Especially if space is an issue.
I've not seen one in the flesh but it looks and sounds sturdy from the description.

Does anybody have one? I'm in the UK but, I guess they are across the water also?

The problem with this kind of folding thing (I have a similar shelf unit) is that it doesn’t open all the way so the table is flat (as seen in the photo of the board on the table). Sometimes it’s just because of some welding crud that needs to be ground off, sometimes it’s a welding fault that can’t be corrected.

Not available from Cosco.ca or Amazon.ca.

If the top is not flat end to end when opened, it is pretty useless for woodworkers. (It is o.k. but not ideal if the centre is a concave as a plywood sheet can be put on top when it's used as an assembly table.) Given Michael's observation, I wouldn't take the risk though the folding concept -- like that for a folding table tennis table -- is very good.

Amazon.com also offers two other different tops: MDF and stainless steel.

I don't see these in our normal costco but have see it at the Costco Business Center and they seem pretty sturdy.  I've eyeballed it a few times when I go.  Dallas TX location

Not having seen one in the flesh, I thought the description, especially regarding the top, would mean a nice flat durable surface, that can take a fair amount of weight.
If this is the case, I could see many uses for it. It looks substantial in the photos.
I’ll have to see if I can find one in a store.

I don't know. When I see the fellow cross-cutting a board with a hacksaw and just holding it down with one hand, I'm kind of leery of the product. But that's probably just me.

I’ve read a few reviews, the majority have been positive but, I suppose it depends on the reviewer.
My main interest in one, would be for in feed and out feed.

I hope you were not referring to the reviews on Amazon.com, because they were about the MDF top benches, not the Butcher top version which came out in Nov., too recent for enough user reviews.

I'd definitely want to see and examine an actual sample on the floor before making a decision. The idea, as I said, is pretty good for shops of limited space, and with dog holes drilled, it can be used for more than just assembly.

Yes Chuck, those were the only reviews I could find.
As most of the reviews for the MDF topped version were positive, I’m guessing the hardwood topped version will be better.

I’d not buy one either without seeing one in the flesh though.
