I have sold quite a few tools through this and another WW forum with all of them being great experiences over the years. Listed my PRL-32 router lift here and on my local CL in Baton Rouge, LA. Now I have sold some tools locally using CL but this time - WOW. Every single CL response has been a scam from other areas of the world - all offering to pay more than the asking price and offering to pay shipping. Pure scams of course. Some locations are islands in the Pacific. Well, maybe if I can be the one transporting it at their expense I would sell to them :) . Has CL totally gone to crap in your experience? Sorry if I should have posted elsewhere but thought it was appropriate here.

I just got a used 8' aluminum brake from CL and it was only 3 miles from me. Thumbs up!

I have bought several things from CL, including tools, a computer and exercise equipment.....not Festool though. All experiences have been ok. I don't believe that I would ever agree to ship or have anything shipped using CL...and definitely not international.

When the Ryobi 18volt sets became popular awhile back, I got a pretty good deal from what turned out to be a college kid using the tools just a few times to fix up his college apartment. There were 6 tools, charger and two batteries that I got for $45 dollars.

But, I've heard of several horrors stories about CL. They mostly are from people buying, sight unseen or not researching the purchase....like buying an old 386 computer for $500 where you could go to you local Goodwill and get one of those "door stops" for $10-$20. Definitely it's a buyer beware proposition.
 
I've purchased several items from Craigslist listings.

My CMT Industrio router table; a never-used OF1400 router for above table use; some furniture, and some free hardwood left over from a rennovation, and an electric/acoustic mandolin.

So far my experiences have been good.
 
In the past 18 months, I bought 3 cars (kids) and sold one on CL. I've probably made about 15 tool transactions, including a whole shop full of Festool.
Like any 'public rug-trading' environment, it's attracting it's share of shysters (sp?).

I think it's great. Buyer beware. Never let the product or $$ leave your mitts until you're 100% comfortable. If it seems too good to be true, ignore it or move carefully.

I'm a big CL fan.  I've bought and sold maybe 20 times or so.  Never been disappointed.  I would only do it locally, though.  As long as its face-to-face and you can see the item and kick the tires to your satisfaction, its sweet.  I would never buy sight unseen or without turning on a tool and giving it a try, though everything I have bought so far has been totally as advertised - wish I could say the same for Home Depot ::).

You're right about the spam.  Its new and annoying. 

But for a free service, its a gem!

Holy cow, a shop full of Festool from Craigs List??? What a find!!!
 
What's a good rule for selling on craigslist?  I read somewhere that many money orders and cashier's checks are fakes.  You guys just sell "cash only".

I have brought a few and sold a bunch of items on Craig's list

The trick I think is to consider it free classified local adds - it's not Ebay.

1) I only respond to locals emails or calls
2) Tell them to bring cash when arranging the appointment to view
3) don't agree to ship anywhere, craig's list is local - if you can't come see it you don't want it.
4) if it's something big or expensive that needs a national market - list it somewhere else (Like Festools on FOG)
 
Some guy out here (it was in the local news) before x'mas responded to a CL add, went to the person's house, two guys beat him real bad and dropped him off in the mtns in the middle of no-where after making him strip to his underwear.  Luckily a truck driver stopped to help him and he survived.  I would say this qualifies as buyer beware.  All this for an item costing a few hundred dollars.
 
I have been trying to sell my 500 ton Dewalt 36v drill there for about two months now. There have been five responses to my ad, three of them have been scammers (one of which has contacted me twice as though it was our first contact) and the other two have been idiots low-low-low-low-lowballing me.

I missed your response while traveling.

About 4 months ago, I picked up a CT22, CT33, 6 rails, PSB 300, TS55, ATF55, RO150, RO125, Boom Arm, Air Sander, Cleaning kit, 6 Anti static hoses, 15 boxes of sandpaper, 12 TS55 saw blades, vacuum clamp in a systainer and some other stuff.
