Cross cut vs rip blade

Just wondering if the cross cut blade and the rip blade use the same splinter guard on the TS55. I've been using the cross cut but now have to do some ripping in Maple and don't want to mess up the guard for the cross cut.

Thanks
Stan

Both blades have 2.2mm kerf.

The splinter guards are consumeables and not that expensive - why not just get a 5 pack and mark one for use with each kind of blade, to be sure (especially should you get more different, possibly also non-festool, blades later)?
Would also make sure you have spares at hand, in case one gives up (which they'll do, with time).

Marking the splinter guards for blade and also cut depth settings is a decade old tip rarely spoken of anymore.  But it is still relevant.

Probably because it's near irrelevant after they harmonized the blades to the same kerf.

I actually meant the track strip, I thought it was called the splinter guard, but maybe not.

Yes, then forget once to lower it if using the rail or cut deeper and you need another one.

Ah, thought you ment thehttps://www.festool.com/accessory/499011---sp-ts-55-r5.

Regarding the splinter guard on the rail: all Festool blades for the TS 55 give the same offset to the groove in the saw base that registers to the rail, you can freely exchange them without further thought.

Don't forget that that green splinter thing on the saw itself is different between TS 55 and TS 55 R. For the older one (without R) you need Festool 491473, for the newer TS 55 R it is 499011. This has to do with the slimmer profile the TS55R is designed with to fit closer to the wall. With the older non-R version you also can't use that thing when cutting at an angle  [mad]

I nearly ordered the wrong one two weeks ago.  [tongue] That is; I bought my TS55 too early.  [cool]
