CT 22 black plastic failure

My CT22 is at least 20 years old and the black plastic lower section has completely shattered and broke at multiple places.Don't get me wrong , It has seen a hard life and served me well. I always thought the motor would go first . I saved the motor in case my other 2 CT22's go bad

You can purchase a new bottom tub from Festool for $161.80, seems like a pretty financially sound way of regaining the functionality of the vac if all of the other items work well.

Yes ,I looked at the new bottom tub and the amount of time it would take and the fact that I have a spare CT22 sitting around not being used made sense to just let it go. That and the fact that it 20 some years old with 8 hrs. a day use.

$160 for a 20 year old vac... seems maybe a bit on the high side. But prices in the US are sometimes much higher than here, so can't really comment.

Was yours exposed to sunlight?

Maybe repair the old tub with glassfibre and expoxy?  [tongue]

Although that is super nasty stuff, so ..

Get some methylene chloride aka dichloromethane. It will solvent-weld pretty much anything made of plastic, including cracked/split Systainers.

I repaired it twice but the whole thing was as brittle as a potato chip. I was rolling it along and one of the large wheels broke lose from the tub. Shattered at the mounting point. When I went to pick it up by the handle the handle pulled lose from the body.Not much sunlight in the shop.I am a furniture refinisher so maybe the fumes got to it.

But it just sits stationary under a CS50, so I dont expect any trouble.

Ya, my CT 22 is 15 years old and I still use it every single day because of its location. It's right in the middle of the action with the MIDI's being more peripheral. With the addition of the remote kit from Rick Christopherson, the CT 22 is as current and functional as the Bluetooth MIDI's.

As a rule, black plastic holds up better than other colors because most black colorants are UV blocking.  If the vacuum is always kept out of daylight, this would not be a factor.  But if it is exposed to daylight, then try to get the piece in black again.

Yup. Also; the CT 22 is the loudest of them all, but when using the CS 50 hearing protection is already worn, so it doesn't matter. For other less loud uses, the 26 and midi are not as loud.
