I'm looking at purchasing a CT 22 on craigslist with accessories for $600. Picture is below. Is this a good deal and/or worth it?  Obviously, it's used but doesn't look beat up. With shipping it's going to cost probably $680-$700. It comes with CT 22, boom arm, handle, 36mm hose to dust deputy mounted to a sys5 on top of CT, 27mm hose, and surg protector. This would be a HUGE upgrade to my current setup of rigid shop vac with HD hose, but really just looking for some reinforcement to sell it to the wife [tongue]

Personally, I'd pass on an older CT-22, and buy a new CT-26.

You can order it with the 36mm hose upgrade, for the difference in price.

It's a much better and much larger bag. I have both, and my go to vac is the 26.

I'd also pass on the Dust Deputy.

Do a search here for the discussion of the static from the Dust Deputy wiping out CT control modules.

It's a long thread, and yes, Dust Deputy did provide modification kits, but that picture doesn't appear to have one.

Joel, with all due respect for the opinions of others, assuming the CT22 works, that deal is a bargain. Given that I own 15 CT22, many of which are still used 6 days a week and one was bought in January 2006, I am proof they stand up to the task of collecting dust and chips.

I do agree that there is no need for the dust deputy and many reasons to never use one with Festool dust extractors.

My business is a very large custom cabinet shop. Even on the two most used Kapex (which do not generate much dust) the 22L bags only need changing 2-3 times a year. I do own 2 CT36, which we keep polished for use in clients sites.

If you are generating a lot of chips with either of the planers or certain operations with an OF2200 router I would suggest buying a re-useable bag, but those are not recommended for tasks producing fine dust.

The boom arm makes this a good deal. You can always sell the Dust Deputy. Sanders only need a 27mm hose, but I prefer the 36mm hose for the TS saws, as well as the planers, OF1400 and OF2200 routers.

Thanks Steve. Buying a new CT26 was the alternative I was thinking of too. Guess I just got caught up on the boom arm since that's so damn expensive new. I'd be getting the whole setup for about the same price as buying just the new CT26. Sound's like the 26 is worth it though. Thanks for the info.

oh my...now the internal conflict continues ;) BTW, I have a large DC so would only be using this for my Festool/other handtools.

Joel, no disagreement with Carroll, as the CT-22 was a great vac....and the CT-26 is all that much better.

The thing I like about the 26 so much is the bag collapses after each use, and self cleans the fines off of the internal surface of the bag.

And it's so much larger.

That, along with the fact that the vac offered is used, and a new 26 has a 3 year warranty, makes it a no brainer for me.

Please do research our Dust Deputy thread, as it will be enlightening for you.

As far as the boom arm....yes, many folks use one.

I don't own one.

Never really needed it, and use my 26 with a TS-55, a 1400 router, and 3 Festool sanders.

FWIW

Be careful of how you interpret the Dust Deputy info. There are several variations of it from Oneida. There is the one that comes mounted to a Systainer called the Ultimate I think and there have been static issues with it. There are also plastic type versions of the cyclone that are do-it-yourself or come with a bucket that also have static issues. The best is the all-metal Dust Deputy. You have to search their website to find it or call. Being all metal, there are no static build-up issues if you use the anti-static hoses for all connections like I did. I can't say enough good things about the metal version.

I think the 22 is just as good a vac as the 26. No reason to choose the 26 over the 22. Barnowl calls the 26 capacity so much larger but it has only 18% more, which isn't "so much" in my book, but "just a bit" which makes that particular difference more or less negligible for me.

All the extras in the package above like the boom arm and the dd and the 36 diameter hose are great value added to the ct22. Though prise-wise I'd be more thrilled if it was $500 instead of $600. The extra $100 turns it from a great deal into a so-so deal.

I think I would buy new. I bought an CT22 and ETS150/3 with at least 50 sheets of 6 different grits of sandpaper and the systainer for the sandpaper for $600.

Thanks all for the input! I think I've decided to pass on this one but just a couple of final thoughts:

This sort of turned into a comparison between the CT 22 and 26 (which is fine with me as I'm curious about the differences). I've seen other offers for used CT22's at the $380 price range and I wonder if it's a good price. It definitely seems that buying a 26 is a wiser idea if you're comparing new price. If you can find the 22 it looks like it's $454 compared to $595 for the 26. But used, is the $350 range a good deal for a 22? Along those lines, Don...I'm curious where you got that deal if you're talking new? I'm looking at festoolproducts.com/Bob Marino and the CT22/ETS/sandpaper systainer combo would be $454 (if it wasn't discontinued)+$325+$80=~$860

Well I have both a CT 22 and 26, Both are good vacs. Bg changing on the 26 is far easier especially with a boom arm.

With that being said, I think what they are asking is a little pricey. I paid $200 for my 22. It looked well used and beat up but it can put a water melon through a garden hose. I use it for the Kapex.

Just my opinion

As a reference point, when the 26 came out, I purchased a used 22 with boom arm and 27mm hose for $450 from a dealer. I thought that was a decent deal.  I have another 22 so I don't have 2 sets of bags which is nice. The boom arm is great and in my opinion it's worth it. In fact, I have it also on the other 22.

Mine was on Craigslist.  I don't normally look there but I just happen to check and saw this deal.  I also picked up 6 parallel jaw clamps of various sizes for an additional $100.  The gentleman was getting out of woodworking and wanted to get rid of all his tools.  Right place at the right time.

I bought an ETS 125 and a bunch of accessory stuff from that same guy in Glastonbury.  Pretty nutty guy but good deals all around.  His vac setup was definitely top-notch, and he actually custom made his DD out of a sys5 and a regular DD instead of using the festool specific version.  I was pretty tempted to pick that one up myself, mainly because it already included the boom arm, but I had recently purchased a ct midi and that suits my needs for now.  I just hope he sells his Kapex soon... To me.
