I got tired of stepping on my hose and cord and get it caught hanging up while Im making cuts etc.

So  bought a boom arm for my CT 26.

I have a work center mounted on it.

I just noticed after I brought it home the festool says

>>Requires handle 495802 and support 496780 to be mounted onto CT 26 or 36 dust extractors. A complete kit is available for the CT 26 and 36

the whole kit is needed,I got one, it does make hose management easier, but it isn't a miracle ,still gets in the way, just less and differently

Yes, even with the work center you need the kit. The boom arm attaches to the handle.

Hey Shane, took it back today and ordered the kit for the 26.

im sure that the deal breaker has to be that you can't open a sys5 when its on the working center

Wait, you can put the workcenter AND the boom on a CT26?
It does fit but you cannot use one of the WCR's tool hooks because the boom arm is in the way and you can only use one side of the tool hook on the boom arm because the WCR is in the way. I did not like how the two worked together so I sold my WCR right after I bought it.

I'm sorry, but at some point this gets to be too much. I have an ample amount of Festools and plan for more. I would love a boom arm. However the amount of additional, extra, supplemental, add on, accessory items that are "required" for using the tool in a normal manner is absolutely mind-boggling. Maybe these extras are the money makers, but they are also infuriating. I am not trying to incite, merely expressing an opinion that  loyal buyers should be able to use the tools at a premium level when we purchase them at a premium price.

I don't understand your post I bought a boom arm for the ct26 it came complete and I was able to use it without having to buy anything else.

hose and lead now off the floor

Here you go, boom arm with work centre but on CT36 crosscutting with TS55. Yes you loose 1 hook, no big deal, just hang it somewhere else.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Im going to have to do some thinking

I hate when that happens

What a set up. Thanks for the pic

Bummer.

I was contemplating getting the boom myself,  maybe even the workcenter -  but I had the handle when I first bought my CT36 and immediately returned it. (the handle.)

Unlike most Festool products, that handle is very badly designed, as I posted at the time.  Comparing it to the excellent Bosch handle,  the Festool handle is heavy (steel, vs aluminum) incorrectly angled, and does not fold or collapse out of the way.  I would never use it.

Is there any way to use (or make) a boom that works only with the workcenter?

Oh, btw-  it would be a great improvement of the boom had a few small pulley for the ac cord.  That way, you could clip a weight onto the back-end of the cord (halfway up the boom stalk) and this weight would constantly pull the ac cord tight.

Would it not be better to tape the cord to the hose instead?

^  Not the same,  though that's a decent idea also.

With the pulley & weight idea, it keeps the cord "tight" all the time  (tightness is dependent on the counter weight)  This is helpful because the cord gets tangled or in the way much more easily than the hose.

FWIW, I'm using such a pulley system right now, but it's permanently attached to my ceiling, and I have no system for the hose.
I also beefed-up the strain relief at my circular saw, by adding a short length of flexible plastic.

Also, with the "cord attached to the hose" idea,  I assume you'd have to modify all you tools to have 1' cords coming off them, no?  I guess that's not a big deal, but some folks might not want to do that.
