CT 26 Limits

Hi all,

I just got a shiny new CT 26 and when I started looking at it, the label on the access door for the tool plug states that the max current is 3.1 amps (the manual says up to 9.1 amps on low suction).  How many Festool tools would actually qualify for the 3.1 amp limit?  This is somewhat disappointing because I specifically bought it for use with my TS 55 which is 1200 watts (by my calculations 10 amps).  Can the TS 55 be used with the CT 26 on full power?

Thanks for the info
Stan

Hi you can plug ANY festool into the ct26 and not worry, this topic comes up from time to time and I had the same worries when I got mine.

I only/always use it on full suction with my TS55 and the various other Festools in my shop.  No problems at all with any of them.

I'll jump on the bandwagon.  I use it full suction with the TS55, OF1400, OF2200.  Never any problem.  Only time it wanked out was when I was hogging out a lot of dovetails with the router and the suction slowed way down.  A little exploration showed that the vac bag was full and super compressed - solid as a brick and the hose was full of chips.  Can't complain about that...

So what's with the labeling then ? If the port can handle more than 3.1A at full suction, why tell us it can't ? Is it just standard corporate butt-covering ?

YES

So no such sticker on European CTs ? How could putting on an incorrect label protect them from liability ?

It has more to to with local electrical apliance code rather than the limit of the socket, you have to look at the total amount of juice being pulled out of the wall socket as well. [wink]

Maybe we have better electrical systems here even though we do have funny plugs  [poke]

It is a mandatory UL requirement and there are no loopholes around it. The sticker must be there. However, the internal components on the vac will sustain the full power of the electrical circuit you have it connected to.

I would not worry too much. I've got a mini and put everything through it from my TS55 to my Router. The only time I've had problems is due to the extension cable going to the VAC or an ify Transformer supplying it (110 Volt).

Didn't we go through this thread once before, where Christian requested that this not be discussed in an official Festool capacity, if I'm remembering correctly.  It was explained in that thread that it was a U.L. requirement if we wanted to see these vacs in this country and there shouldn't be a problem using the vacs with any of the Festool tools plugged in.

There is a sticker that says that?

my vac is pushing 4 years old, I don't remember seeing.

I am so poor that I can't afford to pay attention, however.

Darcy,

I believe it's only on the new vacs.

Stop buying all that big iron and you can afford to pay attention.  [tongue]

ohhhh, it did say ct 26. [big grin]

It's not the iron, it's the diapers that are to blame. [cool]

On a side note, has anyone tried to plug a CT26 into another CT26 into another CT26 and put 2 of them on AUTO?  Just late night stupid curiousity.

I believe someone has tried it but they were sucked inside out [scared]
