CT MIDI for Canadians

When Festool recalled all CT MIDI's from the Canadian market and replaced them, at no cost to us, with the CT26 I thought that I had won a lottery. Thought it was great. Now, after lugging this beast around for the last several months, I miss my MIDI. I thing Festool should get the MIDI CSA approved and bring it back to us Canadians. I would purchase one right away as it is much lighter and easier to fit in tight places. PLEASE PLEASE bring it back.

I feel exactly the same  [crying]  Currently looking for a small, not expensive, vac to pick up the little mess around the shop.

That being said, the CT26 is great if you can keep it in one place and just connect the tools when needed.

Not returning mine. I've owned a midi and a 26 for a few years and they both serve very different functions. The midi I can move anywhere in a house I'm working on for sanding, or cutting with the track saw. While the 26 stays at the mitre saw. Also the midi, comes home with me when I need to vacuum the house  [big grin]

I had a fear of eventually having to import bags so I went for the exchange. Midi was great for portability.

I totally agree,

let me ask you guys, I'm seriously thinking about driving to the states and picking one up, should I get the Midi or Mini?

maybe I'll make a separate post.

I believe that a redesigned midi/midi is about to be released and is why they took the approach on the recall that they did.  Just speculation fwiw.

I thought about keeping mine as well but a friend told me that if you have non CSA approved appliances in the house and an electrical fire happens, god forbid, it could void your house insurance. As we all know, insurance companies are always looking for a way not to pay out. If Festool is working on a CSA approved MIDI, I wish they would let us know before I go out and purchase a Fein or something similar. Missing my MIDI a lot.

Comes down to how often do you want to change the bags!  Suction power is the same.  I thought the Midi was a great size (although I never used the Mini).  I don't remember ever hearing someone say that the Midi was too big and wished they had the Mini instead.  I think if you want to go small, Midi is great choice.

I just made my first Festool purchase but held off on the vac because the CT26 is just more size than I want. I'll be waiting to see what comes in the next few months, the new Bosch vac's are actually pretty interesting but I don't think they're competing in size with the MIDI, the smallest being 9 gallons it's more like a halfway between the 26/36.

This is not an easy question to answer. There are commercial and hobbyist  here. A commercial enterprise has to met a different standard than the hobbyist. Commercial users are subject to local inspection which might require a specific certification. Also there are government agencies like OSHA in the U.S. that has tighter safety standards for worker protection. Commercial insurance may also have more stringent requirements than a homeowners policy for specific risks. I once worked for an insurance company that provided insurance based on engineering evaluation of the business and how it operated, so if you business uses this type of insurance service specific national certification can be very important.

If you have a question, I would check with your insurance agent.

I would also like to see  the mini back in canada. I'm looking for a second and smaller extractor and will most likely have to get a fein instead

I've been holding off on adding a second extractor for a year now.  If they put them on sale here for 24hrs I'd be camping out a Lee Valley tonight to get one. My CT26 is great for a vac its size, but I really want something more portable, I've almost bought a Fein a few times now.

I went to the US to get my Midi and it was really worth it.

so much easier to travel with then the 26

as for getting the midi's back to canada it not going to happen.

I was told it would take to much to get it certified ( like $20,000 ) and there not going to sell enough to make it worth it. As there supposed to be coming out with new vacs in the next couple years so there waiting it out until then.

In my mind also, there is an update/replacement model on the horizon and is why they didn't bother going thru certification although you have to wonder how much the recall costed them versus simply getting the units certified so they didn't have to recall them?  Or is it that you can't certify anything that is already in the marketplace without recalling them anyways in order to do so.  Wonder if anybody got a demotion or the boot for letting that fiasco happen over at Festool.  It's kinda like driving using only your rear view mirror.

Hopefully my prayers will be answered and we will see a Midi in the new year. Also wished they would upgrade the RS2E sander with a Plug-iT power cord like the UK version, RS200 EQ-Plus.
