Purchased back in October 2014 with a bunch of stuff from the great Bob Marino. Vacuum started acting  up it wouldn't power the tool on auto start it worked fine in manual mode. So I used the search on this forum and saw some threads on ordering a new switch so I purchased one from Festool 44.00 dollars us. Still didn't work . So I decided to send it in to Festool. Last week they called me to tell me it would be 300.00 dollars to fix a 450.00 dollar vacuum 1 month out of warranty with the vacuum motor operating fine. It sounds crazy to me. Mac

Wow, that sure sounds crazy to me too. If the turbine's ok, then there is only 1 other expensive part that could be faulty: the electronics board. This unit is simply switched out as a whole and costs $99 ex VAT according to Ekat. Same part incl VAT costs only €52 over here in Holland. It is very easily accessible and switching it out wouldn't take me more than 15 minutes.

Did they give you a detailed explanation of what they had to do or only the cost estimate?

Festool's price for spare parts are also crazy. I just replaced the power cord on my CT Mini, Festool asks €62 for the 7,5m cord, I found a high quality 10m cord somewhere else for only €8.

no they didn't give me a detailed estimate. Told me technician diagnosed and it would be 297.00 dollars and they wanted a credit card. I told them I wanted to check if it was still under warranty. I checked my account at Bob Marino and see I purchase October 7th 2014. I'm bummed. Mac

Man, that's unfortunate. Seeing as you are just out of warranty they might charge you for the parts only and waiver the labour cost, got to be worth a shot.

Thanks Tyler and thanks Festool . Vacuum  will be covered by Festool.
Happy  Thanksgiving. Mac

Good job Festool

I was about to say throw it up on eBay and spend the difference on a new one. I’ve seen Midi’s listed as broken go for $190.

Nice to see a happy ending for you. It would be pretty cruel to get such an expensive repair 1 month out of warranty. You see, it's good to vent your grievances here on the forum, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Nice you still get a $300 repair for free from Festool USA, while Festool NL stiffs me over 8 euros. I guess Festool NL doesn't care what you read here.

Way to go Tyler, if you keep this up guys will be stuffing dollar bills in your belt at future Fes connects.
