Hands down 10 on the portability...
I have it set under a TS55, RO90,ETS125,PS420EBQ on the SYS-Roll and looks great...

However I am worried about the longevity...
On my second one,
Great warranty gotta say.. 1st one motor smoked using Rotex 90 sanding paint off of pine furniture in auto mode..

Motor and housing got extra hot..not sure new design is allowing enough ventilation..the replacement is warm and if it goes I'm hoping it goes sooner than later...

Happy so far..

>:(

Well...that was short lived....replacement just stopped working 10 days later...i do light carpentry I'm not killing this thing..had rotex 90 on auto mode sanding a small drywall patch....smelled like burnt electricity the day I turned on replacement.....smoking hot again...i think this is a recall in the making....

Not happy..

How hard were you pushing the Rotex?  Wondering if it's a current draw situation?  Was the Rotex hot to the touch like the vac??  I've certainly pushed my Rotex and got it heated up in heavy sanding.  But if it's drywall, doesn't sound like you'd be pushing it that much.

Festool may want you to ship them both the Rotex and the vac to diagnose the problem.  Definitely sounds like a current draw problem.

Keep us in the loop on what you find out.

Oh, and welcome to FOG.  Sorry this issue is clouding your first post.

Last week I ran my OF 2200 through the CT Sys without issue. Milled out a 1"x 12" x 2.25" using a 1/2" serial down cut bit in solid surface. No issues at all.

just wanted to come back and update....

Returned the CT SYS, that monday...local dealer called sales rep...SYS is equipped with a thermal overload protector that will turn the machine off after 20 mins of use...Good to know...no where in data sheets does it say this...Full Refund that I turned around and upgraded to CT 26... which is where I probably should have been in the first place....

Again portability...great...., sleek looking box, not for a typical Festool Consumer..especially as an entry level vacuum to pair with a rotex...

Thanks for the welcome..
cheers

Smart Choice !!!

Craiglife - curious why you went from a SYS to the Ct26 instead of midi or mini ?

Those form factors are closer to the SYS then the 26 ; if portability was driving your thinking originally .

There's honestly no way the ct Sys cuts out after 20 minutes. I've run it 4 hours straight today with only breaks to change sanding pads on an RO 90 lol hmmmm

Accordin to the manuial it is a thermal protector that it would turn it off should it overheat, not after a fixed runtime.

The CTL-SYS is rated for 1KW, in case it can't move enough air it won't be able to get rid of the heat generated by the motor and the compression of the air.

Possible reasons:
- full/clogged bag or reduced airflow through obstructed hose/tool (you would possibly hear the air bypass kick in periodically)
- using it with the air outlet on the back obstructed, like put against a wall or another stack of systainers
- reduced airflow with a misaligned sanding paper on the disk obstructin airflow
- circulating outlet air back into inlet, turnin it into an air heater with integrated filtering

The RO 90 has few and relatively small holes in the sanding disk, a misaligned paper could easily obstruct airflow and thus heat dissipation from the motor.

I can't speak to the original poster's trouble with his CT-SYS, but I've had one of my staff sanding a timber frame home with the CT-SYS and the RO 150. The vac and sander combo will run for 9 hours a day, stopping only for lunch, sandpaper changing and to move the ladder. It had to have run for at least 2 weeks like this, with vac doing just fine. My worker is happy to be done that task though!

I have used mine for many (minor) tasks of late and it has been a peach!  It is my second CT and the first time I invested in a long life bag.

I have used my EC 125, my Domino, my 850 and lots of cleanup. For the most part it is great... but on occasion, I do wish the suction was variable. I know I can do some things with the hoses, but variable suction and a remote start (hi Rick C!) would be awesome accoutrements.

Cheers. Bryan.

The air bypass kicks on off and on all the Time with the ro90 on it.  Annoying sound but I reckon it's cool [emoji41] love the vac though otherwise

What is that?  Never heard of it.

The bigger CT vacs use a bypass fan motor (like the motors in the turbine paint sprayers) so that there is air being pushed past the windings even if the hose is blocked.

I'd assumed the CT Sys would have a bypass motor too. Does it not?

A flap behind the main filter that opens when the pressure in the inlet gets to low to prevent it from stalling and overheating. You should hear it in action by blocking the end of the hose with your hand (or maybe you already heard it since it also happens when the bag is full).

As it seems it is cooled by the air it moves, given the temperature of the exhaust stream.

Please keep in mind the the CTL-SYS itself has lower volume than the motor head of a bigger CT vac alone - and some of it is occupied by the dust bag - there might be not enough room for an extra cooling system. Also: if there already is clean air moving through the motor... why not use it to get rid of the heat?

I recently bought a CT SYS and had the issue of the bypass valve popping open and closed when using a RO90 and a OF1400.  It got to the point after one week of use it was in bypass more than open so I sent it back to Amazon for a replacement and we shall see if the new one works any better.

On the bypass cutting in/out .................  I found the same issue with the smaller sanders (RO90) etc. But not with the larger sanders (150). I think that it just can't get enough air flow through the small pads.

I tried my replacement CT SYS this morning with a the RO 90 and so far it worked perfectly.

Could be why you can't reduce the airflow by slowing the motor - it needs full air to cool it.

You can only reduce the suction by fitting a bypass valve in the hose.
