I have managed to not cut into the table, mainly because I'm a cutting aluminium, sandwiched in plywood, so I'm a thinking, if I get another table, can I shift to the edge, making the cuts between the tables, has anyone tried, and what problems would I make, mostly trying to do with only using the one area ,that is going to create limits,is the only thing I can see, thx, john

I consider the top sacrificial.  Not quite a spoil board but slowly expendable.

Jerry Work has put together some good information on using the space in-between a couple of MFT's.

Here is the link to the "how to" article -    "Take routing and cutting to a whole new level with the Festool parallel Guide.

If the link didn't work; look for  "Take routing and cutting to a whole new level with the Festool parallel guide system" in the how to section at Jerry's site - http://www.jerrywork.com/

He also uses the space between MFT's for routing in this article - Making the Festool Multi-Function Table into vertical and horizontal router tables the easy way.

If I'm reading your question correctly, you're talking about having your work piece hanging in air between the tables?

If there is no sacrificial surface under the cut, the dust extraction is going to suffer considerably.

That is debatable. I cut a 3/4 sheet of plywood on the floor which is supported by only a few 2x4's. There was a small amount of dust on the floor, and practically no dust in the air.
