CXS drill - battery issues or misaligned expections?

Hello,

I have a CSX drill (about 3 months young). It performs quite well for a 20 min session, then gets very slow, and eventually stops. My old makita out-does this by a long shot - it can go for 2 days before needing a charge (under the same work load). Is this normal for the CSX? I am not sinking deep screws, only drilling 1/8" x 2" depth pilot holes into cedar.

BTW, I much prefer the weight/balance of the CMX over the Makita, but am having an issue with the battery life.

Any input from users before I make a call to the support group - are my expectations out of line with this drill?

Thx

Mike

Mike, sorry that you're experiencing issues with your CXS. Are both batteries giving you the same results?

Can you tell us which status is being shown by the charger when you remove the battery for use?

LED green - flashing quickly - Battery pack will be charged with max. current.
LED green - flashing slowly - Battery Pack is charged to 80 % and will be charged with further reduced current.
LED green - lit continuously - Battery pack is fully charged.
LED red - lit continuously - Battery temperature is outside the permitted range.
LED red - flashing - General fault display, e. g. incomplete contact, short circuit, battery pack faulty, etc.

It sounds like your battery life is far from normal.

I can usually go all day on a cabinet install without changing batteries.  I'm side Shane will pop in to mention this, but call customer service tomorrow and they'll straighten it out.

Edit:  LIKE CLOCKWORK!

I've had my cxs since day one and it's still going strong.  Sorry to say it sounds like you got a bum one

Hi Shane

The battery seems to charge normally - green flashing LED then a steady green LED after 20-30 minutes. I'll give Festool Canada a call and see what they say.

Thanks Mike

My cxs is my go to drill. I use it a lot and I use it when I really should be using my 18v stuff. Only time I've had a battery die on me was after hours screwing in drywall with it.

Just to followup.

I did talk to Claude - very helpful Festool tech at the Canadian service center. He asked that I track which batteries are loosing their charge, so I did that. I'll followup when I know more.

I am cutting and stacking wood right now, can't find a festool to help me with this!

Mike

dude you don't have a festool cut-n-stacker?

its the only festool available exclusively in north america.

get on that.
