Hi everyone,

I went to the D&M show today and saw some great kit. Festool were there in strength as well as just about every other manufacturer and distributor in the UK. I really recommend a visit (last day tomorrow I think) but next year if you have missed this one.

I met up with two great guys who are well known here on the FOG - Jobsworth (my friend Ron) and Green Fever (my other friend Paul). I had no idea that Americans ate hotdogs and just wished I had taken the picture of Ron with his 15 inch long specimen. Notice in the pictures below how the tummy gets held in for the special 'Festool' photo.

I have a germ of an idea that we should have a FOG get together at the 2014 show - it could be fun and I am sure that D&M and Festool might be persuaded to help out.

Peter

I went yesterday I only live 5 minutes away. All the festool big wigs were there yesterday including Christian Oltzscher ex CEO of festool USA. I didn't know who he was when I spoke to him but have since found out. Shame if I had known I could have asked for a factory visit ;D

I might pop in there tomorrow and have another look round, I didn't buy much Friday.

Hi Joiner,

If you can fix a factory visit then go for it - it is really worth the effort getting there.

Lol oh you did go then, I remember you hinting on here once or twice that you'd like to visit. They must have given in then ?

They did - they got fed up with me sending junk emails to all of their staff.

The visit was fantastic and Festool are a really impressive manufacturer and a brilliant employer. I will create a thread about it in the next few days.

Looks like it is Festool. It's on the guy's shirt in the other photo too, and Ron has changed his tagline to "You'll never work alone" so I presume it is a Festool marketing thing?

I couldnt get any decent fish and chips in the states.

I should of worn a different color shirt.

Ya'll cant see my signature hotdog mustard stain on the red shirt. A nice white one would have showed it off nicely

Ron, I did not realise that you supported Liverpool. "You'll Never Walk Alone" was sung by Gerry Marsden of Gerry and the Pacemakers. I wrote a song for him which he sang on UK TV many years ago.

Here is a photo, taken about that time, of me holding a Liverpool flag/banner and Gerry singing and playing guitar. We are sitting on the Potemkin steps in Odessa, Ukraine. The guitar was given to me by the owner of the shop where the Beatles bought their kit in the early days.

photos we photos

We got them, but they were of you  - nice to see you Mr Jobsworth.

Peter and I are waning to get them started here in the UK. We'd like to see if other folks in Europe would be interested in joining us if we organized one.

Do you think we should start a thread tat says something like Euro festool fest 2014?

I dunno if we can pull it off, but it seems like it would be fun

I'm up for doing traveling , Maybe some of us Yanks can travel over as a group , with a side trip to the Festool factory  [tongue]
A trip to the EU would make the WAF  go into the plus side for once !  [eek]

I cannot promise anything but if we build up a big enough head of steam then anything might be possible. I will put a proposal together in the next couple of months and try to offer FOG members something interesting and certainly something worth travelling for - you may even get to visit Stonehenge (that is a test to see if you have read my book !).
