Dartboard project

A little project my British wife asked me to do so she could start playing darts again.  Not gonna say where the 853 wine corks came from, but Festool helped bring this to life.

Nice project, and one I think I'll borrow.  I have a good collection of corks (I live pretty close to Napa/Sonoma). Wish I could say most of the corks were given to me!  Did you split the corks lengthwise to mount them?

Great idea for using corks.  I have made several cork-topped trivets in the past, and would also like to know if you split them and also, what type of adhesive you used to attach them to the backing?

I use Titebond 3 to attach my corks to the plywood brivet top, and I do split them.  I use my bandsaw for that:  very quick and easier than cutting them with a knife.

Nice work.  I blame my friends for my cork collection.

That looks brilliant.  [thumbs up]
I hope your wife thinks so too and has many pleasant hours throwing arrows at it and missing the corks [big grin]
The trouble with thin cork tiled backboards is that they can bounce the darts back at the launcher especially if the points are a bit blunt.
I learnt to play left handed after hurting my right hand, so used to be equally as bad with both hands  [big grin]

Thanks.  She loves the project.  Unfortunately, a little practice is warranted.  Her first throw hit the corks and since it was such a  'weak' throw, it bounced right back and onto the tile floor!  [eek]  Thank goodness we have dart sharpeners.

The corks were not split, they're whole. Some are custom cut to fit and I too used the bandsaw for those cuts. For a bulk of the corks I used Titebond II but used hot glue for the cut ones. Hot glue seemed to go much faster and the corks didn't move around after I put them down.

One of my very first woodworking projects was this 12 foot wine bar in my billiard room.  I saved corks for 15 years and I actually drank from every one of these bottles...

Yeah, the corks are a cool idea. Man, this makes me want to get another dart board. It's been a few years since I had one.
