I live in So Cal and there are 3 dealers within 18 miles of me. It has been explained to me that Festool sets pricing and dealers can't deviate from that price.

The question I have is if a saw costs $525 mail order with free shipping, isn't the dealer discounting the tool in order to absorb the free shipping? Think of the cost of shipping a table from NY to Ca( I know they are drop shipped) and the cost absorbed.

So why can't I walk into a local dealer and have them meet that same $525 out the door pricing? They would have to discount price to absorb tax vs shipping which in some cases is less money.

Not trying to rock the boat but would love to get my tools quicker and use a local dealer. Doesn't make sense to me.

No, the dealers that offer free shipping, do so to get and keep your business.  The shipping comes out of their pocket.

I find it quite silly to intentionally go out of your way to avoid paring sales tax.

If I still had a local dealer, I would support them no matter what.

By law, you are supposed to remit sales tax for online purchases. Not paying sales tax only hurts your local economy.

So, free shipping actually levels the playing field for online dealers since there is no shipping when you buy locally.

I am going to lock this topic. I don't see any good coming from this discussion and that it will likely become political in nature, which is against our forum guidelines.

If you'd like to discuss it privately, feel free to email or PM me.

Thank you,
Shane
