Just a few pics of a garden gate I just finished for our "Zen Bamboo garden".

The bamboo (Temple Bamboo) can seen in the background, lining the barn (my woodshop). Eventually it will be 30 feet tall and obscure the metal building (and shield it for summer heat). The gate is redwood, bamboo, and slate tile.

Used dominos for the joinery. When I saw how heavy it was, I decided I needed to brace the vertical posts to make sure they wouldn't lean when the adobe soil gets wet (It gets like pudding).

Attaching to the wall of the house isn't an option, it's a code violation here
in California where we have termites. So I decided to brace it across the top by tying the two posts together with a top rail and using a 90 degree block. The posts are on metal brackets set in 2 foot deep concrete piers. The posts weren't even, so I had to take off about 37mm. I was surprised to find that the quick clamps were big enough for the 6x6 posts, so I decided to try and clamp the rail on there. Worked great!

Now I just have to negotiate with the wife over whether the top brace should be stained to the match the fence posts, or the gate....  [eek]

BTW, forgot to add... I cut from both sides, and that left about an inch of material still connected. Then I finished it with a japanese pull saw which followed the kerf made by the TS 55 quite well.

Paint it red - grad the colour from the gutter detail on your workshop - but maybe colour a picture first as a trial ...

She liked your idea Kev... it just might happen! (or exterior door trim is all painted read too).
