Return a Festool  [scared]

Isn't that breaking a law in some way?  [tongue]

its a great tool
i sanded a teak stained window board back to bare wood this morning. it worked great. rotex mode and 40grit ate throught the years of finish and the delta pad got intot he corners. its one of those tools i coulnt do without. i have the ro150 as well ,. they make a great pair. you can sand a rough saw board up to a mirror finish with one tool. what more can you want. oh ye no dust

It is very versatile sander and nice for a lot of things.  It would not be my only sander I would rely on as it is small for open field work.  But for narrow face frames or tight areas it is great.

Matt,

With the other sanders then I think it would be a perfect addition and really add flexibility.  If I only seeded a sander to get into corners then I would really look at the DTS400 as this sander works better for me in this capacity as well as sanding right along edges -- it is one of my favorites.  I bought the RO90 to sand the the inside of chair seats and other smaller rails and stiles and it works great with the right pad.  I do not use the Delta mode all that often as I usually turn to the DTS400 for that purpose.  Other users will have different opinions here and this may not even be a concern for you.

I do mostly smaller projects and I find the RO90 and ETS 125 to be a great combination.

The larger sanders are probably far better for projects with a large sanding area.

Usually, I start with the RO90 in the coarse mode with coarse grit paper, move to finer grit in the random orbital mode and finish up with the ETS125 with fine grit.

I had to turn down the speed on the RO90. The higher speeds make the sander hard for me to handle. With the speed turned down, the RO90 is very pleasant to use. It doesn't make sanding fun, but it makes it go faster and better results.

Matt,  I used my RO 90 to refinish the doors, drawer fronts and face frame of an oak bathroom vanity with no problems at all.  The doors were frame and panel with a solid panel recessed 1/8" from the rail and stile and the triangular pad let me get injto the panel edges perfectly.  I've used my RO 90 from flattening out high spots on rough timbers with 40 grit and at the opposite end, I polished my plastic headlamps on my Acura MDX with Platin 4000 grit to a clear finish (starting with 500 grit).

Sanding rails and stiles is quick and easy and after getting used to the tools characteristics and learning hand holding positions you will love this baby!

Ditto that!

After you're done with the Platin 4000, you ought to try the 5000 and 8000 grit liquid abrasives with the felt pads; hard felt with the 5000 and soft felt with the 8000.  These make badly-abused polycarbonate headlights sparkle like new.

Dandy little sander. It's my only Festool sander so far. I have used it mostly for reno's. With both round and triangle pads, it made quick work of stripping paint off of the interior door jambs of my house. I've never had a sander like this,( mostly old craftsmen half sheet and quarter sheet style ) so it took a bit of getting used too. I also bought the hard pad which helped me keep the sander flat on the working surface. Couple this with dust collection that my old sanders do not have, and I was able to work inside the house and not make a huge mess. I can see more sanders in my future.....

Well, I've got one on hold at my favorite Woodcraft.  Picking it up this afternoon but Santa says I can have it until Christmas day.

Don't forget to also buy the hard pad. Works like a charm for keeping narrow edges flat.

The Rotex 90 is a modest little Festool - it looks small and limited but it is full of surprises. The ability to switch between rotary and random goes for all the Rotex range but the added advantage of the delta pad is very clever. I have been very pleased with the way that it can tackle quite aggressive work in rotary mode and never miss a beat. This is the only Festool sander that I  own and my old Bosch, Stanley and no name delta machine now never see the light of day.

I am trying out Rubin 2 at the moment. I already know how good Granat and Brilliant 2 are for woodwork. I am hoping that my magazine will take an article on the Festool range of abrasives which will, of course, be used with the Rotex 90.

I have very little to complain about - the supplied round pad should be the hard one. It would be nice (considering how much it costs) if they also supplied the larger delta pad. It would be nice to be able to buy assorted packs of sanding disks, either 10 of each in a 50 pack or 20 of each in a 100 pack.

I look after my tools (almost obsessively) and it does pay to brush and vacuum out the build up of dust under the pad once in a while - it improves dust collection and has to be good for the machine.

The RO 90 saves me from any unnecessary incidental exercise as well as giving a better job than (well, in my case at least - me) hand sanding.

So many other manufacturers tried to make this class of tool a sander, grinder, cutter, toaster, video player .... Festool got it just right !!!

I understand Festool's reasoning but it would be helpful from a "paper management" standpoint if the triangular sanding pad, extended triangular delta pad and the DTS400 accepted the same refill papers.
