Another source for cyclones is HERE on eBay.
I have one of the big ones that is inline with a standard ShopVac that I use as a central vac for my shop (dumps into a 55-gal drum). I bought the smaller one for a friend and it works just as good as the big one.

I made this from leftover 12" concrete tube from deck I built. 4" tube extends about halfway down. Doesn't look pretty but works really well. Could do same thing in smaller scale. It cost me only the price of the bin(form Oneida) since I used left over scraps I had laying around. Hope the picture comes out. Never tried this before.

If that system doesn't look feasible, you might look at ClearVue's site to see how some have constructed their own cyclones -- try looking at their Photo Gallery for some ideas.
