I'm going to be taking a lot of exterior window trim down to bare wood (or close to it) and am wondering whether the Deltex 93 detail sander is aggressive enough for removing lots of chunky paint inside corners on window sills, etc.  Also, how is the dust collection on this tool?

Any thoughts?

The Deltex is the perfecrt sander for that job. I would use the Brilliant or if really caked on, the Saphir. DC is very good, not perfect, because only a small part of the pad (the tip) is in contact with the surface.

i have the dx 93 and think that it works really well i haven't used it for what you are going to do. i have used it to take a finish off some interior windows and the dust extraction there was more than satisfactory. so i think it will do the job for you.

Just got mine the other day. Love it. It is pretty aggressive when you use the lower grits.Works great in those tiny corner spots. The only question I have is there an attachment to connect the oval dust port to the round ct22 hose or do you just oblong the hose end like I've been doing. Now, I can sell the PC detail sander I never use.

Thanks, Bob!  I just placed an order on your site.

While on the subject of the Deltex, I have a Fein Multi-Master (which is a very effective tool); do the the Fein accessories fit the Deltex? Does Festool make any accessories like Fein does; i.e. saw blades, scraper etc.?

John,

I don't know about the Fein accessories fitting the Deltex (tend to doubt it) but I do know that Festool does not make blades, scraping or drilling accessories for the Deltex.

I don't think the Deltex would work as a scraper as the action is orbital.  I have used both the Fein and the Deltex for sanding into tight places.  I like the Deltex for most of those jobs, but sometimes i have had to get in just a little tighter space and have to go for the Fein multimaster.  I have also used the MM for chipping off rust from places like truck frames.  I could not do that with the Deltex.  Once finished with chipping, I go back to the Deltex for the final sanding as it has MUCH BETTER dust collection.  In fact, the MM has no DC.  I think there is an attachment, but I don't have it..  If i were to limit myself to one or the other, (knowing that he who dies with the most tools WINS) I would keep the Deltex.  I can do chipping with hand tools if necessary.  Sanding by hand is a drag.

There is a DC attachment for the MM but it costs $50 bucks or so and doesn't work very well. It is a shame as it is a very effective sander that can produce a lot of dust in a hurry and easily handle much larger jobs than its size would indicate. I'm thinking I'll build a downdraft table for it.
