DF500 Base plate + Paddles question

Hello - I am attempting to use my DF500 for some draw box construction I am working on.  For the  domino spacing I am trying to use a combination of the paddles directly on the machine but to get some good looking spacing I am also wanting to use the paddles on the base support bracket as those are a bit closer to the cutter and fit my need for some of the slots.  So essentially I am trying to use a combination of both and I am trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong.  when I "release" the set screws on the machine paddles and then flip open the paddles on the base plate there seems to be some interference between both of them.  Part of my brain seems to think they are meant to work together to form a more robust positive stop as the stops on the base plate have some "Flex".  But some times when I remove and install the base plate things just dont feel right alignment wise when both sets of paddles are deployed.  Possibly there could be some play in the registration of the base plate but I thought to ask here is anyone else has a better explanation of what I am seeing or feeling as slight misalignment some times when both sets of paddles are deployed.  I think it is obvious but if I have to close the machine paddles to use the paddles on the base plate every time this will for sure be a huge pain the butt and eliminate any real gain in efficiency by using the paddles in general.  Thank is advance for any guidance\wisdom you can offer.

As seen in the second photo, the paddle on the machine and the one on the support bracket shouldn't interfere with one another.

In use, there shouldn't be any flex on the support bracket's paddles as they are supported by the paddles in the machine. You don't need to retract the machine paddles in order to use the paddles on the support bracket.
