Just got the DSG-AG 125 (as a gift) yesterday. I don't have any diamond cup discs, and one wasn't included. I had a mild shock discovering the price of these.

Can someone tell me whether:

1. is there a huge difference between the premium and non-premium cups? Price difference is 2x.
2. is another make like Würths diamond cup discs ok to use? They seem to be 125mm instead of 130mm.

Hope someone has some input. Thanks!

A couple of years ago I bought a used makita concrete-planer. It's similar to the dsg -ag 125, but has an extra roller in front, and a  sole like on an electric wood planer.
When I needed to replace the diamant cupwheel,  a makita original part was more than 150€ and  the affordable ones where 50€, I went for the cheaper option, and for my use it works great. (They now have an updated model, which uses 125mm discs, and the makita part has become cheaper, but still is over € 100.)

Thank you. OK, I guess a third party disc would be ok.

I found this shop as well http://www.werkmax.de/Diamantschleiftopf-Schleiftopf-PREMIUM-passend-fuer-Protool-RenoFix-RGP-130-16-E. They sell the premium cup discs at a very good price EUR 109... So I guess I might go for that.

You can get reasonably priced diamond discs for the machine.

I have the DSG-AG 125 too and I bought a "rasping disc" as well as a cheaper diamond  disk. For removing old grout they last a long time as long as you don't put too much pressure on them and let the machine do the work. I prefer the larger stud patterns for aggressive removal and the "rasp" disc for "finer" grinding/removal.

After two rooms and roughly 35 to 40m2 of concrete grinding - plus walls - the cheap disc is not even worn yet. The disc I got was £45.  :)

Just make sure you get the right disk for the job, it there is old paint/tar involved you need a different disc than for removing floor tiling grout and so on. The machine is good and I got the "diamond tile cutter hood" for it too, bought separately and they all fit in the Systainer.

In Denmark you should have the brand "Dronco" which is decent price and good value, you could also get a DeWalt  grinding disc for the DSC-AG, they seem good and are also priced around £65 around here.

This is the type of grinding disk I use though I use a cheaper version, could not find a link though:

If they are finer and not coarse enough I find they have a tendency to clog up. The one I have is pretty coarse but handles a great variety of materials.

This is the preferred type for grinding rough concrete, larger studs, my next disc will be this pattern, it does not clog up easily and lasts a long time:

This is the cheap version for Denmark; I have used it and it did last quite a while:

många tack! :)

I will try a cheaper version of the festoon diamond cups... worst comes to worst I have to spring for a more expensive one :)

Varsågod!

I am doing the same. There are four five expensive options (including the Festool Diamond Cup/Disc) at my local store and if I would get a larger job involving the grinder I would factor in a new disc but until then the medium priced ones perform really well.  [smile]
