Difference between 1010 and 1000 routers?

What is the difference, outside of the Plug-it? My local Woodcraft has a 1000 for $225 rather than the $335 for a 1010. I'm trying to decide whether the savings are worth it. Any opinions?

  Hi Greg,

The differences are subtle. The 1010 has a bit more power and the speed control dial is more accessible on the handle rather than on the front.

If you expect, and follow thru with the thought, that the 1000 will be the only Festool toy you will ever buy, go for the savings.  If you expect to buy two of those unresistable toys, (the more likely scenario) go for the newer changes of the 1010.  The detachable cord is probably the best advantage you can immagine.  If you have plenty of room to spread out, the attached cord is not a great problem.  If you are cramped for space, or do all of your operations at one location (MFT as usual example), you will go crazy from all of the cords cluttering up a very small area.

I am waiting to find plugs made by Festool (or even aftermarket>>> are you suppliers listening>>> i have gotten no reply from FT on this) so that i can chop off a section of my power cords and re do with detachable so i need no more than a cord or two to play with all of my toys.  Once you discover the advantage of the detachable cord, you will definitely be a convert.

Trust me, I believe. I have 5 tools already, an MFT and my own FrankenMFT as well as a Domino on the way. My favorite part is leaving the hose and cord hooked up to the boom arm and just changing out the tool. I get a huge kick out of it everytime I swap tools.

I know what you mean about the enjoyable moments when switching tools TO THE CORD instead of swithching tool, cord and all.  I am waiting for FT to come out with PLUG parts so i can cut off the cords from the undetachable tools I already have.  If they don't, i will go to my local builder's supply, get a few plug stups in whatever style they have, and it will be Chop/Zip and i will have everything so I will need only two cords.  the one i set up and the Festool cord.  I have been looking for the Festool plugs every time i go into any kind of electrical type store.  I just don't find them.  I have a nephew (my wife's nephew) who lives in germany.  He told me to let him know if I need anything from Festool i can't get here.  (He lives very close to the factory).  Those plugs are on my list when i decide i can't find them in this area.  (FESSSTOOOLLLLLL>>>>>> ARE YOU LISTENING???????  HELLLLOOOOOOOOO)

Tinker, Festool produce it. You can get at least here in Europe 2 version, the first one (#491144) 360 mm long - its the overall length with the cord, and the second one (#491145) 420 mm long. I don't know how to insert a picture, please go to:

Hope this helps

I have read that the OF1010 can use all the accessories for the 1000, but is the reverse true ?

For instance, the LR32 set is advertised in some places as being compatible with the OF1010 and 1400: is it still compatible with the 1000 ?

Are there any other differences one ought to be aware of ?  A search didn't turn up a real list of differences or improvement beyond this thread.

On a lark I just picked up an OF1000 from a user here (thanks Craig).

The router first used with the LR 32 was the 1000; so no worries there. As mentioned, the differences -  10 watts of power ala 1010 are slight. I no longer have the 1000 to check and can't find my 2003 catalog, but I believe all current 1010 accessories will be compatible with the 1000 router.
