Difference between plug-its

What's the difference between the black and white plug-its? i.e. the inside plastic hub that fits into the tool is either black or white with one having a little nib. The one without the nib will fit all, the one with can not. Just want to know if there is any downside to just using the one without the nib on the boom and not having to have both and plugging as needed into the vacuum for the Auto. Thanks!

The one with the nib can't carry as much current. Using the one without the nib, you will be good for all of the tools.
