Difference between Ps400 and Ps420

Newbie here!

Im thinking about getting a replacement jigsaw for my stolen ps400 and wondered what the difference was between the ps400 and ps420?

The major differences are the Trion-style blade guide that was reintroduced in the 420 because of the PS400's blade deflection problems and a bit more powerful motor.

The new manually adjusted blade guide required a new straight base plate for the saw, but it seems that the additional bases are still identical.

definetly get the 420. 400 is crap.
the 420 has the properly designed guides off of the trion

Best advice... don't buy a Festool, it is the most disappointing Festool I have ever purchased and I own most everyone they make

I had a trion and was never happy with it. Ended up selling it on eBay. I much prefer the Bosch 1587 which I think is now discontinued but I'm sure you could find one on eBay

I have a 420 and am not as happy as I would like to be. May I suggest you hold out a couple of days and see what the boy in Holland discovered with their test of 5 Jig Saws. It might help your decision making. THere is a link here

I really like a lot of the features on the Carvex and the different bases really make it a market leader.

I am just struggling with the amount of front to back play the blade has. This causes problems when backing up while cutting. the blade tends to move sideways when its out of the blade guide.

Also the strobe is not in sink all the time. You may know this from  old 400.?

I have tried the 400 in a show room and the 420 has a firmer base less sideways movement, but apart from the 300 blade guide no real changes that I can see. Im sure there are some.

Thanks for the info, will have to look a lot more into my next Jigsaw but think Im swaying towards a bosch.
But will keep an eye out on for a proper review of the 420!

For thin work I found the FS400 ok.  But today cutting out a worktop for a replacement hob very frustrating...

Consequently I'm unhappy with the blade deflection (on my 6 month old) PS400 - clearly a flaw.
Despite the price not up to the standard of the rest of the range.  Yet clearly advertised as being suitable for this use...

Do Festool (UK) plan to offer an upgrade path to resolve this?

Hi john g, I see you are in herts , my old neck of the woods , no pun intended, have you tried taking the 400 in for repair ? are you close to st. Albans , where did you buy it , tts will pick it up from you or your nearest store , then if you are still unhappy send it back again then see if a replacement will be offered , I know it's not what you would like but it's due proccess if you can't do without the saw explain that to tts , If no joy pm me , green.

The 400 doesn't seem to cut square, and when shaving off a sliver or coming in at an angle the blade gets pushed off its track and ends up crooked. Definitely a deception. I wonder what the policy here in france is, I'd like to change it for a 420.

By the way, what's this TTS I've been reading about?
