DIY CNC Machines

Starting this thread at lambeater's request.

I'm planning to get and setup a small (2' x 3') DIY CNC machine this year. My use cases are all guitar oriented, CNC  carving of neck profiles, bridges, and of course inlays (both the sockets and the inlay pieces themselves).

The linear carriages and some of the other hardware used in the Fine Line kits are made and sold by CNC Router Parts. I have a couple of them I was experimenting with, they are stout beasts. CNC RP make and sells components and a some kits, I believe Fine Line designed their own kits around the CNC RP components. There are a lot of router mills in use with their components, they appear to hold up to professional use.

CNC RP also makes a pretty unique rack & pinion drive and more recently came out with a v-wheel linear motion system. Over the 2 years or so I have been visiting their site they have continually been innovating, I think they make a pretty nice product. 

This thread is going to be fun to watch as it develops.

Be careful with fine line, maybe their customer skills have improved regarding deliveries, I have read some customer service horror stories over at cnc zone forums.
You can also pick up some real bargains everywhere on parts. Found a 2.5kw Fuji drive new in box for $188 on ebay.
McMaster Carr has a lot of mechanicals, wouldn't ship to Canada, but had some US buddies that did it for me.
